Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Is it possible

    Hello

A real chore is visiting clients to do presentations carrying the equipment to do the job properly.
This is especially so when travelling by die and train.
In order to do these, I have to carry my notebook, my projector and also a portable screen.
Every now and again I will get an email saying how it’s becoming easier to carry your data and presentation on a USB by preloading it with Windows and in my case Alpha V12 and our applications.
Does anyone know, or even better does anyone have any experience of using a USB in this way.
I accept that speed wise it may have limitations, but a USB loaded with Windows 10, containing a virtual drive MS Office, and our applications is going to make life a lot easier.

Thanks, for your help. It is much appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Alex

    Re: Is it possible

Depends if you need to show something which is not covered in a standard presentation - which I used to do using stuff like Camtasia and talk them through it.

One issue I came across using a type of USB - it was a mini drive in its own right - was getting Government people to allow it onto their network.
I had all the Alpha stuff on there as a RT instance and used their version of Windows, casting the demo across any connected PC's.
With RT, I was not tempted to "fiddle" when I got the "Oh, by the way, will it do.....".

Could you share a bit more about your demo style?

      Re: Is it possible

      Hello Ted

      Thanks for your reply.

I've used Camtasia but only on sending Cds out early in the sales process.

I have found the same with local government departments and also a fair number of plcs. In many instances, zealous IT managers won't allow any external media on user workstations.

In terms of the demo style, it falls into two camps.

1: those where I have prequalified their existing methodologies, and the demo is more specific to their set of circumstances. - the guys who are in the market

2: those incidences when I am trying to use a general demo as a means of inciting interest. In these situations, I will have multiple flavours of what we have done for similar people in the same vertical. - the guys who don't know they are in the market.

I'm trying to avoid lugging around the accoutrements of the trade.

It would be good to sit down with either of these groups and demo through a web browser.

Sadly using products like ShowMyPc, Logmein etc I have found to be flaky.

Another limitation is local internet speed.
I can remember trying to do a demo to a guy in Liverpool whose local speed was less than a meg.

As all of us know, the object of the art demonstrating software is to put the guy in the market...not scare him out of it!

      Kind regards

Have you tried Chrome Control, Alex?
Also, I use quite a lot of free (?) 4G time with a tablet tethered to my phone to overcome line speeds. Requires a reasonable access point, but most of the UK is covered now.

My app for Parish Councils (and the Service Level Agreement app) uses DT, Web,Mobile depending on what's available.
Not dived into off-line as I don't need it at present.

Color me stupid but USB is connection format. What exactly are you suggesting can be added by "USB" in your mix of hardware that will enable you to shed components from your mix of hardware?

            Re: Is it possible

            Hello Mike

I am asking if it is possible to put Windows 10 (yes) on a USB.
Install Alpha run time and our applications on the USB (don't know)
Install MS Outlook or Thunderbird on the USB (yes)

Then when I visit prospects I only need to plug my USB into one of their workstations in order to demonstrate our applications.

In fact it could be made easier if you could take an Alpha application and turn it into an exe, but from searching here, this is not possible.

Hope this clarifies what I am trying to accomplish.

            Thanks for your answer.

Alex, I presume you have looked at Virtualbox?
              https://www.howtogeek.com/188142/use...ou-everywhere/

It's free for personal use but under the GNU License. Unless you are selling thousands of versions - and I hope you do - you will probably get away with the odd demo.
