Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    2020 defaults to 1920??

    Came in this morning and our dates are now defaulting to 1920 instead of 2020. Where do I go to fix this?
    I was surprised because up to now our 'year' was always correct.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    It's a setting that you need to change.

    Control panel - view - settings - system - date

    change 20 to 99 - a Y2K hangover that we won't have to worry about in our lifetime.

      So I need to check 'Require all years to be fully specified' - yes?
      And that now forces the users to actually input the 4 digit year? they are used to just inputting the month and date and have the year auto populate, but if this is the only work around so be it!

      How are you?

        you do have the option of changing that 20 to 30 , which will solve your problem for the next 10 years.

              It's only a default setting value.

              It can still be over ridden, so you need to pick the most likely occurrence and adjust for the rest by typing in the CCYY.

                If you are running a networked version like I am with multiple users, it might save you some trouble to change the setting programmatically.

                    We do this for all users, by running a 'reg import' as part of the users logon script...

                    Code:
                    [FONT=Liberation Serif][FONT=Arial][COLOR=#0070c0]Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[/COLOR][/FONT][/FONT]

                    [FONT=Liberation Serif][FONT=Arial][COLOR=#0070c0][HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Alpha Software\Alpha Five 10.0\init\date][/COLOR][/FONT][/FONT]
                    [FONT=Liberation Serif][FONT=Arial][COLOR=#0070c0]"date_window#"="80.000000"[/COLOR][/FONT][/FONT]
                    [FONT=Liberation Serif][FONT=Arial][COLOR=#0070c0][HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Alpha Software\Alpha Five 11.0\init\date][/COLOR][/FONT][/FONT]
                    [FONT=Liberation Serif][FONT=Arial][COLOR=#0070c0]"date_window#"="80.000000"[/COLOR][/FONT][/FONT]
                    [FONT=Liberation Serif][FONT=Arial][COLOR=#0070c0][HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Alpha Software\Alpha Anywhere 12.0\init\date][/COLOR][/FONT][/FONT]
                    [FONT=Liberation Serif][FONT=Arial][COLOR=#0070c0]"date_window#"="80.000000"[/COLOR][/FONT][/FONT]
                    This modifies the registry for A5 V10, 11 & 12 (Alpha Anywhere), so you may not need all 3.

                      Thanks, yes the final reg update is the one we'll need. I'll give it a try.

                        I forget if this is something I made, got from the forum, or a bit of both. This is what I have running in our alpha autoexe script. Just change the targetDateWindow to whatever year you want.

                        Code:
                        dim currentSettings as P
                        dim targetDateWindow as n = 30
                        registry.load_settings("init",currentSettings)

                        if .not. variable_exists("currentSettings.date.date_window") then
                        currentSettings.date.date_window = 0
                        end if
                        if currentSettings.date.date_window <> targetDateWindow then
                        dim updateSettings as p
                        updateSettings.date.date_window = targetDateWindow
                        registry.save_settings("init",updateSettings)
                        msgbox("Relaunch required","Database needs to relaunch to update settings. Relaunching NOW.",UI_ATTENTION_SYMBOL+UI_OK)
                        relaunchDatabase(a5.Get_Name(),"",.f.,.t.)
                        end
                        end if
                        Just noticed I'm using a custom function to relaunch the database. Here is the contents of that function. Note I have a helper function after the main End Function.

                        Code:
                        FUNCTION relaunchDatabase AS C (adbFile as c, exeOnStart as C = "",asAdmin = .f., closeNow as L = .f.,no_check as L = .f. )
                        'easiest way to pass in code for exeOnStart is to surround it with %code% deliminater e.g.
                        ' OnStart = <<%code%
                        ' msgbox("title","this is a test")%code%
                        '
                        'This would launch a message box as soon as the user logs in (or even if the login fails)

                        dim alphaAnywhere as C
                        alphaAnywhere = a5.Get_Exe_Path() +"\\" + a5.Get_Exe_Name()
