Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Radio Button Enable Expression

    Build 6348 5409.

    I just created a simple radio button and set the enable expression to 1=2, which should disable the control. Yet it is still enabled.

    Anyone else seeing this?

    Not sure about that build, somebody else will have to test. But in build 6378-5412 it is working for me.

      Is this in a grid or a UX? Can you give us a picture of the properties of the control? Does 1=2 work on other controls in the component? What if you just put false in there?

        Here is a test UX.

        I was trying to create a more complex enable expression, but 1=2 should work.

        I am using this build because the official release is too buggy.

          Your component does not work for me. I created a new one and it works fine (see attached).

            I do not have that build so I wouldn't be able to help, however I am working on an app in that build where that kind of expression is working fine, so far as I know.

            I am not sure what you mean by this: I am using this build because the official release is too buggy.

            The latest official release IS 6348 5409

            And if you are sharing components, keep in mind: the latest couple of builds use a new file structure, so older builds will not be able to open newer components properly.

              Larry is absolutely correct, you probably should try build 6378 at minimum for the component that I shared!

              Btw, I have not found any issues in this particular pre-release.

                Re: Radio Button Enable Expression

                Joe, this is a bug in 6348. You can move to a pre-release if you want to, but then you'll be faced with all of the bugs introduced for current and new features. The basic problem is that Alpha doesn't test.

                If you want this working in 6348 then call a Javascript function in the Enable expression property... e.g. setRB()

                Your setRB() function would be...

                Code:
                function setRB(){

                	$("{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.RB1.1").setAttribute('disabled', true );
                	$("{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.RB1.2").setAttribute('disabled', true );

                }
                Where RB1 is the name of your control. Your test UX has 2 choices and so you must disable each choice... the RB1.1 AND RB1.2. You would test what you need to within the function and decide to disable each choice (true) or enable each choice (false).

                The function does run, but Alpha ignores true or false being returned... so... each choice must be enabled or disabled directly.

                For some unknown reason, the Enable expression always runs twice... this has been a bug in Alpha for a very long time but they won't fix it. It's not the only place this happens and is annoying.

                  Re: Radio Button Enable Expression

                  OK, I am on the latest official release. I had tried some more recent pre-releases that had issues so I rolled back to 6348 at some point.

                  I am going with David's solution. It works. Thanks, David.

                  It seems that moving to pre-releases (and some official releases) is just trading one set of bugs for another.

                    Re: Radio Button Enable Expression

                    That's the problem with Alpha and pre-releases. The bugs in pre-releases are found in long standing, previously working properties... as well as new features. Alpha doesn't test pre-releases. The pre-releases bugs are simply "official" release bugs-in-waiting.

                    All the bugs in a pre-release, unless they are found by us... by the developers..., because the pre-releases are not tested by Alpha, simply flow through into the official release.

                    These bugs then get fixed in subsequent pre-releases... and on, and on, and on. It's just bad management and practice.... but Alpha doesn't care because they will not change their process.
