Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Where are report layouts stored?

I am moving my development project to a different laptop, so copied my Alpha project folder over to new laptop, etc. When I open Alpha on new laptop, I have all my web components, pages, etc., but when I go to Control Panel and use the Reports tab, none of my report layouts are there. So apparently, they are not stored in the Alpha project folder?

I have hundreds of reports, so hopefully there is a way I can get them to other laptop without exporting them one at a time to some folder.

    Hi Carol

The .a5rpt files normally are in the web projects folder.

Glen is right if your reports are in the reports tab of the web project control panel.

But, if your reports are in the reports tab of the desktop control panel, they are contained in the .alb, .alm and .alx files.

So if your workspace is named MyProject then they are in MyProject.alb, MyProject.alm and MyProject.alx.

Glenn, I copied my whole web projects folder over to new machine, and see all my web compinents, pages, but do not see any reports in the Reports tab under Control panel. If reports are in web project folder, shouldn’t they be there? What folder within the web project folder are the report layouts stored in?

Re: Where are report layouts stored?

Steve and Glenn, my project is Web_CHS_Alpha and in my A5Webroot folder, on my old laptop, the Web_CHS_Alpha .alb, Web_CHS_Alpha .alm, and Web_CHS_Alpha .alx files are there, but that's in the web root, and not in my projects folder. I assumed that if I copied my web project folder, Web_CHS_Alpha, over to the new laptop, that the were in it somewhere. Apparently not. I have just tried copying those 3 files from the A5Webroot folder on old laptop into BOTH the A5Webroot and into the Web_CHS_Alpha,WebProjects section of the web project folder, just to see what would happen. I had Alpha closed, opened it and the reports are not there. I thought, well, it doesn't make any sense, but I'll Publish all files to web root again, and make sure the box for Publish Workspace Library is checked, and, of course, it replaced the larger alb, alm, and alx files I had copied into the A5Webroot with tiny sized ones.... since no reports are showing up in Alpha, which does make sense.

Bottom line is, I cannot figure out what to copy from my old laptop to the new laptop to get those reports to be in my very same project. I know that I could sit, and one at a time, export the report layouts to some folder on old laptop and then take that folder over to new laptop and import them in (one at a time?, not sure), but I have hundreds of reports, and was hoping I wouldn't have to do that.

Additional concern is that I thought I had been backing up everything by storing copies of my Web Projects folder, and my A5Webroot out on our Rackspace server. It appears to me, now, I have not been backing up the reports.

Re: Where are report layouts stored?

This has been resolved. I decided to just start over with copying my project from old laptop to new, and now I see the reports on the new. I think it could have had something to do with the order of things I did in installing Alpha, etc. I have no idea. But thanks all. I have now learned where the reports are stored.
