Default New word_merge_python to PDF, possible?

I'm looking in today's pre-release notes at the word_merge_python, which performs merge just like a5_word_merge_dotnet, but it does not need office installed in the server.
The problem is the generated file is a word document, does anyone have a trick to generate a PDF instead?

    Many thanks
    Jaime

Yes there is a pdf merge function but you need to install a free third party tool to use it. Search the documentation for pdf_fillInFields_merge

Thanks! But I need to merge in a *word* document, and then generate a resulting PDF ( currently it merges the word document to a resulting word document ). The function you mention merges a pdf document to a pdf document

Then check the new functionality "Generate a File in an Ajax Callback and then Download It." In the release notes for Alpha Anywhere V4.6.1.6 - Build 6348-5409 22-DEC-2019 there is a link to a video.

It gives you a resource to figure out your question. Your question is too vague to tell you exactly how to perform what you are looking for.

Do you want to do a word merge first and then convert the word to pdf? If so then that requires either office or python installed on the server.
If you want to ultimately end up with a pdf, then start with pdf and do a pdf merge thus eliminating the office middleman.
There's functions to export a report as a pdf, nothing to install. Create a report and export to pdf.
Install a pdf printer such as cutepdf or use the PDF printer that Alpha has built in (Amunyi) and print the word document to that printer which will convert your doc to pdf. See documenation link https://documentation.alphasoftware....Properties.xml

If you want a magic button that does everything for you, submit a feature request.

Lots of options for you to mull over. All of them have everything to do with word conversion to PDF.

I know about those methods, but none help me for what i need. Here is a more detailed explanation:
    - my customer has already many beautiful Word document templates
    - we need to merge data into those templates and email the result **in PDF**
    - building report equivalents ( which is what i did in the meantime ) is really lengthy and tedious
I then stumbled upon the new word_merge_python function which suits me (because it doesn't require office in the server), but i still need a way to convert the resulting word document to pdf

That's why I think you need a PDF conversion tool like Amunyi or CutePDF. Once you convert the merged Word Document to PDF on the Server, then you can use any method you want to download the PDF to the Client or set as an attachment in an email.

    Bump
Has anyone any idea how to open a word document in the server using python ( no office in the server ) and then transform it into pdf?

    Could use an API

These support CURL so you can do what you want from Xbasic
    https://www.convertapi.com/docx-to-pdf.
