Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Date Range Search Not Working

    Hi All...

I know there's been some posts about date fields since the change to 1/1/2020 and I've made the suggested changes but none of it has helped. I'm not even sure if the issue is related to the other posts.

I have a range search that is setup on a list control. The range search is based on the field Term End (Date). Up until recently it worked. The two changes that have occurred were an update to the latest version of Alpha and the year change. Prior to one of these changes things worked properly.

The thing that is happening is when you select a date using the date picker it puts an extra space at the end. Ex "10/29/2020 " vs "10/29/2020". So when I use the Range Search:

Term End Start: "10/01/2020 " Term End End: "10/31/2020 " I get no search results. If I remove the extra space from the both fields I get results ONLY for the 10/01/2020 date or whatever the first date is. Almost like it is ignoring the range value.

Not sure where to continue with the troubleshooting and I'm curious if anyone else is seeing the same issue...

    As always...thank you for input.
    Joe

Re: Date Range Search Not Working

So I added a place holder to the range search to see the filter information and it is very bizarre. If I don't remove the extra space that gets put in at the end of the date range fields when picking the date using the date picker I get this as the filter:

    range1.PNG

Now if I remove the extra space that gets put in when using the date picker I get a different result. Not a correct result but different

    range2.PNG

Is anyone seeing this behavior. I'm running AA v4.6.1.7

Re: Date Range Search Not Working

      Hi Joe,

I haven't done much work with lists, but I do a lot of work with dates and times.
You're giving us a small part of the equation.
Things that could affect your results include defaults, backend, and that code that does the actual search.

Share that info and we'll have a much better chance of helping you solve your issue.

Re: Date Range Search Not Working

I submitted a bug report to Alpha and the range does not work with a date type. Datetime does work. Since the fix is in pre-release, there is a simple workaround. Cast your date type field as datetime in the list control as follows and it will work as expected: CAST (Schedule.ScheduleDate AS DateTime ) AS ScheduleDateT

I can confirm the date range search is fixed in the pre-release, and so far no issues with same. I haven't tried out any of the new stuff yet but it is working as expected now.
