    Default Copy and paste from an Alpha RTF report

    I am generating a report in Alpha that needs to be pasted into a Word document generated by another program. I can't migrate everything from that other program into Alpha, but this is an improvement from manually typing info in. I am generating the report in RTF format because I thought it would be a simple thing for the user to copy and paste. The RTF format seems to put each Alpha field into an individual editable field. You can't swoop through the page and capture everything as you normally would in Word. You are capturing individual fields, and it's very touchy - sometimes you can't quite highlight everything to copy, sometimes a corner won't capture, etc. I've tried the various RTF options, and manually saving the RTF into DOC format but it retains the individual field setup. I get better results by printing the report into TXT, but the formatting is lost. How can I generate something that can easily be copied and pasted into Word?

    For illustration, this is what happens when I try to select text in the report

    You have sort of lost me Bill.
    What I did was create a report using RTF fields, save it as a Word RTF document.
    Opened Word, located the saved RTF document, opened it and pressed Ctrl+A
    This copied all of the data.
    Ctrl+V puts it where you want it in the other document, at least it does if the target doc is a Word doc I believe.

    It does not work with Libre Office as all of the formatting is copied over, so as long as you have a Word Doc format, you should be OK.

    Thanks for responding Ted. I probably didn't explain myself well enough. The best way to illustrate the problem is to generate an RTF report and copy/paste, just like you did. Now, you can click on any of the existing fields and change them. That's fine. But what if you want to add another column, a note out to the side, etc? You can't, at least not in my versions of Word. The editable area is only around each individual field; you can't edit the document normally outside of those fields.

    Well Bill, I can add a Comment, a Table, or create Columns.
    I can edit the RTF field by field as necessary.
    Can you send me a copy of the RTF to;

    example.consulting@btinternet.com so I can see if I hit the same problems as you.

    One thing you might do is to add blank fields where your users may want to put additional data.
