Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Master Password change without access to Control Panel

Is there any method by which a user can change this without having access to the Control Panel? We set a "generic" master password but some of our users want to change. We are not too excited about them going into the Control Panel to do this. Thanks.

    A5_CHANGE_USER_PASSWORD Function

If you ship the app with a Master, you will always be able to get in and fix things.
Suggest you ship with a generic Super User password and use tge above for localisation.

Thanks but I still don't see how an IT can change the Master password without access to the Control Panel. If a user logs in as "Administrator" they require the Master password. And sometimes the IT wants to change this. I tried to enter "administrator" in as a user and it says restricted name.Master Password.bmpSecurity 02.bmpSecurity 03.bmp

I sure I got the pics in there OK.

Re: Master Password change without access to Control Panel

So you really want to give IT the ability to change the Master Pwd?
        OK.
Look at creating a button which only displays specific top menu items like security. The option is in Action Scripting.
What will you do when they mess up the password side?

Yes, a few IT want a fancy master password of their own creation. We have warned them if the Master password is LOST or forgotten there is nothing we can do to recover. If they "mess up the password side" it is their problem also.

            Nah!
You can get in if you need to, but it's convoluted and you can charge them.

I'm away again until Sunday, but I will put some notes together and possibly a simple form to set the password without showing the whole CP.
One thing to warn them about is not to encrypt otherwise you will HAVE to walk away as the data really is irrecoverable if it corrupts.

              @ D.C
As promised, please see the attached.
              The password to log in is case sensitive;
Administrator - note the capital "A"

Once changed, the form with Tabs on opens. Just for fun.
There is also a Show CP button which you can either hide, turn into a HotSpot or password protect.

BIG thanks. I think that will do the trick. Will get my programmer to test. thanks. Now a user who has admin permission can change our generic Master Password (which we send with our app) without going into the Control Panel. We prefer all users to not have access to the CP. Cause a few like to play in the sandbox in the CP which causes major probs.

You can do the same thing with the Administrator so they only have access to the master and user passwords.
No need to show the CP at all, which is Padora's Box!
Happy to send you an example, but it might be better if your dev person has a go first.

Re: Master Password change without access to Control Panel

Well I had some time anyway, so please see attached.
                    Administrator pwd is Administrator
                    Ted pwd is ted
                    Case sensitive.

Try logging in as Ted and you will not see the Housekeeping Form
Log in as Admin and you will see it.

                    There are 3 options now;
                    1) Change Master Pwd
                    2) Manage Users and Groups
                    3) Change a specific user pwd. This is entered into the Variables. The old pwd must match or it won't work.

Last, the way to open the CP is by clicking on the Opera Logo top right - which is a HotSpot

                    Have fun.
