Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Web2Cal Alternative

    Hi,

I'm looking for an alternative to the Web2Cal calendar component that is built into Alpha Anywhere and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions/if they've used any that worked well. I'm aware of the "ACDS DHX Scheduler", https://www.a5customsolutions.com/dh...uler_docs.html, and have contacted Jim to see if it's still active.

Has anybody else used any other calendar libraries that they'd recommend? I'm looking for something that supports drag & drop, day, week, month view etc., multiple staff/resources and is mobile friendly.

I'm looking into various 3rd party JavaScript libraries at the moment, but any recommendations would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jack

I'm quite certain Jim no longer provides calendar components.

You don't need any additional add-ins for the DHTMLX stuff. It was actually much easier to use without any add-ins. I bought the add-ins and found it made the whole process far too complicated... and then support was dropped.

I've tried these and they're pretty good.

I've always been surprised that Alpha doesn't have their own calendar component.

Jim's calendar modules are still for sale here: https://iadn.com/store.a5w. Scroll down to the two A5 JQuery Cal items.

Yep - best decision I made as an addon to AS was Jim's calendar by far. If he updated it with a new version I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it even if I had to rob someone, lol

I agree, have used Jim's calendar for years and it has worked perfectly. Well worth the small cost and you won't find better support if you need it.

Mike, I got an email from Richard Rabins last September about an imminent Alpha Calendar release. But I've heard nothing since so I have no idea where they are at with it.
Hopefully it is still something coming!

P.S. Looking back at that email, it looks like I was the only non-Alpha employee receiving that email .. I don't think I was supposed to receive it (unless everyone was bcc'd)

This may not suit your need for a full calendar but I am about to implement "Calendly" on IADN.COM to schedule mentoring appointments. It interacts with my Google Calendar so it knows if I have an available slot for any particular hour and visitors can click on "10:00 AM Tuesday" for instance and it updates my Google Calendar and the user's calendar if they have one, and then removes that slot from the pool of available slots.

Looks promising steve - I do have a question. Does the calendar integration with gmail allow for variables? I am asking because I run a saas type application and this would be an excellent addition.

                          Re: Web2Cal Alternative

It's free for one-calendar/one user but they make their money when it used by a team. I am going to try it out using me as the only member and, it if works, then see if each IADN member can somehow deploy under that free program as well, each under their own profile. That idea will probably NOT work because the vendor will know the domain is all IADN.COM, and that will be considered a Team. So, knowing the kind of person I am, once I understand how it works I will rewrite it on my own using Alpha.

I purchased Jim's calendar, several years ago, and it's great! He also offers it at a very good value, so that's even better. It appears that Alpha is developing a calendar component (specialized "List" control), but they've obviously has some problems that have caused it to be delayed.
