Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Return to grid and stay on current record

    I want to open a dialog from a grid and enter a new child record, and after I save the record, I want to refresh the grid to show the changes, close the dialog and return to the same current record in the grid. Right now it returns to the first record in the grid. It seems simple, but I can't figure it out.

      Re: Return to grid and stay on current record

      Hi Gregg.
      Attached is the grid and dialog.

      When i click on the "D" to enter a new disposition, the attached dialog opens so i can enter a new child record in the disposition table.
      When i close the dialog, i want to remain on the same record in the grid, but i always goes to the first record.
      I'm sure its because I refresh the grid when the dialog is saved. I do that because there are fields in the grid that need to reflect the changes when the dialog is closed.

      Seems like there should be a way to capture the record number in the grid when the dialog is opened, and once its closed, recall the record number and return to it, but i am unsure of how to do that.

        Before I dig in, do you need to refresh all rows, or just the row you were on?

            Re: Return to grid and stay on current record

            I need access to at least some data, and there's more than I want to try to create.
            The code below is from the basic function. I'm sure it can be done, but I need to be
            able to experiment with it.

            Code:
            '-------------------Closing the Window in Which the Dialog is Hosted -------------------------
            'In many cases the Dialog will have been opened in a pop-up Ajax window and you will want code in this event handler to close the pop-up window.
            'Here is how you can do this:
            'a) In the action that opens the Dialog in a window, set the Window title to something like this: MyWindowTtitle<span id="mywindowid"></span>
            'b) In this event handler set e.javascript to:
            '	var ele = $('mywindowid');
            '	{dialog.object}.closeContainerWindow(ele);

            'NOTE: If you have used Server-side Action Scripting in this event to save the submitted data to a table, then you might want to reference
            'the rtc.flagRecordWasSaved variable (which is set by the Action Script) to decide if the window should be closed or not. In addition, since the
            'Server-side Action will have already set the value of the e.javascript variable, you will want to append your code to e.javascript, as follows:
            'e.javascript = e.javascript + crlf() + var ele = $('mywindowid'); + crlf() + {dialog.object}.closeContainerWindow(ele);

              Re: Return to grid and stay on current record

              Thanks to Gregg Schmidt for figuring this out with me.
              I should have refreshed the current row instead of the entire grid, which is why it was going back to the first record.

              I had this on the "onBeforeHide" event of the dialog.
              {grid.Object}.refresh();
              But this refreshes the entire grid.

              Refreshing just the current row with this resolved the problem.
              var currow = {grid.Object}.getSelectedRow();
              {grid.Object}.refreshRow(currow);

              Thank you Gregg.
