Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    yes. That way js is returned to the UX and it knows the result of the function call.

      Re: Validation Xbasic

      Ok. This only shows the CANNOT BE BLANK on the first Name field. Seems to validate the others, but only shows on the first. We need to loop the 'tempJS = "$('fn')' part. The 'fn' is the First Name <div> Each has their own in the Field Label text.

      Code:
      function setShip as c (e as p)

      dim validated[0] as p
      dim allValidated as c = ""
      dim js as c
      dim tracker as n = 0
      dim ShipFName as c = e.dataSubmitted.ShipFName
      dim ShipLName as c = e.dataSubmitted.ShipLName
      dim ShipAdd1 as c = e.dataSubmitted.ShipAdd1

      validated[].swap = "First Name"
      validated[..].fieldVal = shipFname 'e.dataSubmitted.ShipFName

      validated[].swap = "Last Name"
      validated[..].fieldVal = shipLname 'e.dataSubmitted.ShipLName

      validated[].swap = "Shipping Address1"
      validated[..].fieldVal = ShipAdd1 'e.dataSubmitted.ShipAdd1
      js = ""

      for each fld in validated
      	tempJS = ""
      	tracker = tracker+1
      	if isnull(validated[tracker].fieldVal) then
      		allValidated = "false"
      		tempJS = "$('fn').innerHTML = '<swapit> &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp<font color=\"red\"> CANNOT BE BLANK</font>';"
      		tempJS = strtran(tempJS,"<swapit>",validated[tracker].swap)
      		js = js + tempJS
      	end if
      next
      if allValidated <> "false" then

      	js = "alert('validated');"
      end if
      setShip = js
      end function

        Re: Validation Xbasic

        Ok. I see what you did here. You assumed one <div> to handle all the errors. That works. Is there a way to have the result be independent to each field?

          Actually, I missed the ln,fn,and a1.
          This code should fix it.
          Sorry about that.
          Code:
          function setShip as c (e as p)

          dim validated[0] as p
          dim allValidated as c = ""
          dim js as c
          dim tracker as n = 0
          dim ShipFName as c = e.dataSubmitted.ShipFName
          dim ShipLName as c = e.dataSubmitted.ShipLName
          dim ShipAdd1 as c = e.dataSubmitted.ShipAdd1

          validated[].swap = "First Name"
          validated[..].swap2 = "fn"
          validated[..].fieldVal = shipFname 'e.dataSubmitted.ShipFName

          validated[].swap = "Last Name"
          validated[..].swap2 = "ln"
          validated[..].fieldVal = shipLname 'e.dataSubmitted.ShipLName

          validated[].swap = "Shipping Address1"
          validated[..].swap2 = "a1"
          validated[..].fieldVal = ShipAdd1 'e.dataSubmitted.ShipAdd1

            Almost. It doesn't set them back to the original "First Name" when you enter something in the field.

                Yes. Starts out with "First Name", etc. <div id="fn">First Name</div>
                And then Last Name, and so on. The script changes "First Name" to "CANNOT BE BLANK" and then if validated change back to "First Name", and so on. At least that's the intention.

                  Re: Validation Xbasic

                  oh crud. This seems to be the first time I'm not understanding something with this thread.
                  Based on the code, I presumed the fields started blank.
                  I'm missing where the initial value was set, or in the alternative, what value you want to set it back to.

                    Re: Validation Xbasic

                    If you look at the test component, look in the Field Label. Open it. For some reason the Label preview doesn't show the div. You'll see <div id="fn">First Name</div> in the First Name field label. That's the initial value. Then the xbasic changes that to CANNOT BE BLANK if it's blank. then once something is in there it changes it BACK to 'First Name'.

                    And then repeat with the other fields. Does that kinda explain what I'm trying to do?

                    having the error appear in just one place is fine. I can work with that. Ideally I'd want the above, but I'm not that picky. :) You've been a great help.

                      I think I'm starting to put this together.
                      I could be looking in the wrong place, but I don't see the div.

                              This is what I was referring to. How the div shoes in the Enter Text box but not just looking at the Label. Is that what you're referring to?

                                If it's blank, you get "CANNOT BE BLANK"
                                Enter text, "CANNOT BE BLANK" disappears and just "Last Name" is shown.
