Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Report Runtime Arguments Not Being Requested

    For over a decade I have been using the TabbedUI as the main page for my application. Slowly I am working my way away from the TabbedUI and the Expanding Menu along with a TabBand Panel Navigator is where I am going. Everything is working great with the exception of my Reports.

    In the TabbedUI, adding the Report button gives you properties for setting up arguments and a button to generate the report. All works great and has for years.

    Trying to duplicate this with the Expanding Menu, the menu item calls a javascript action to 'Open, or Email a Report, Label or Letter Layout'.
    The action javascript properties are set up identical to the TabbedUI properties (as shown).

    When I run the report, it does not prompt for the argument at runtime, therefore the report comes up blank.

    Does anyone have any ideas why it doesn't work the way I'm doing this?

    Re: Report Runtime Arguments Not Being Requested

    Rather than using <Prompt at Runtime> why don't you create a small UX which opens and requests the date? Upon closing the UX, stuff those dates back into the calling form using
    {dialog.object}.getParentObject();
    po.setValue('beginDateField',value from called form begin date field);
    po.setValue('endDateField',value from called form end date field);

    Then set the report to grab the argument values from the 'beginDateField' and 'endDataField' on the calling form.

      Thanks Jay, that sounds like it should be do-able. I'll play around with your idea and see what happens.

        Re: Report Runtime Arguments Not Being Requested

        This is so frustrating, one step forwards two steps back.

        I created a UX with 2 date fields (date pickers) and a button to run a report.
        When I select the date ranges from the date controls, the report does not bring back any data from the SQL query.
        If however, I modify the selected dates and put single quotes around them, the report runs and brings back data.

        Here is a video example of what I mean ...
        https://www.screencast.com/t/cz4Sp4KX0

        This is not an issue when I do the same thing using date picker for run-time arguments in a TabbedUI. The TabbedUI must somehow automatically add the quotes for the correct SQL syntax.

        Is there a way to automatically wrap the dates in quotes? Does anyone have any idea how to handle this?

          Can anyone please confirm or indicate whether they are seeing the same behavior as in the above video example where quotes are needed when filtering a report on date picker values?

          I just want to know if this is specific to me.
