Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How to set up full version of Simplechart in V7

Could someone please advise on what I have to do to use the full version of SimpleChart in V7. What parameters I have to change etc.

    Thanks in anticipation

    Regards Robert

The full version of SimpleChart uses a different progid and GUID. You would need to change any lines of code that refer to the Lite control to the full version. For example
    ole.Create("SimpleChartLite.AxisChartGenerator")
    would become
    ole.Create("SimpleChart.AxisChartGenerator")

You would need to review the SimpleChart documentation to find the correct replacement names and also find out the additional features no included in the Lite version.

Where would the application file be placed to ensure that V7 would not be corrupted and would the lite version have to be removed from V7.

Just install and register it according to SimpleChart's instructions. Since their ActiveX controls publish different identifiers, there is no need to uninstall the Lite version. Alpha Five does not care where an ActiveX control is physically located on your system, it depends on Windows to give it what it needs. This is why DLLs must be registered.

You would have to purchase the full version of SimpleChart from the vendor, and then in your a5 code, replace the program id of simple chart lite with the program id of the full version.

              Selwyn,

Where exactly is the A5 code found?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

When you use simplechartlite in a5, you have to write Xbasic code. The xbasic code has a line in it where you specify the program id of the activex control.

Have you used simplechart lite in any application yet?

                  ;) Selwyn,

Yes I have used SimpleChart lite in the desktop application successfully and it works admirably but I wish to try the full version to see the additional features that future clients might find worthwhile.

I have downloaded the trial version and spoken to Imagio personnel regarding the full version after downloading with positive feedback. However I am apprehensive to change any xbasic that I have copied and altered (not yet created) from the documentation provided as I am using my creations!!!!!!!!!! to demonstrate to potential clients the opportunities that Alpha based databases present.

It seems that after downloading I only have to change the references in the code from "SimpleChartLite" to "SimpleChart" and all should be Ok irrespective of the location of the full version of SimpleChart within my folder system. However I am being as cautious as possible because I do not want to end up with a "Non working application"

Any advice would be most forthcoming.

                  Regards Robert
PS Thanks for the continual ongoing development. Most appreciated

That's correct Robert, all you have to change is the reference to the object name. Your code will then use the full version instead.

                      We use SimpleChart Full Version

We evaluated several versions of graphics libraries for our Alpha based system. At present we are using the full version of SimpleChart. It's robust, doesn't require a greate deal of programming and is flexible. Recommended.

We also evaluated (among others) Chestysoft's library, which appears to be much more powerful and gives you even more control over your graphs. The price, of course, is more lines of code.
