Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

field rules lookup table and field to fill

    Hi,

I have setup fieldrules which do a table lookup and then fill several similar fields contents in the target table. When you make a form using this the fields are filled.

But In the web version I see ony 1 field to update the lookup result...

Are the field rules not taken over in the web version of the system? If so i would like a hint on how to do above otherwise.

    regards, Ron

RE: field rules lookup table and field to fill

Good question. I've had the same question in the back of my mind. Just what exactly can one design in v6 that works with the WAS? Field rules? (Auto increment?) Reports? Operations? Or, can one only use the tables with the WAS? If that's the case - then why were the two programs (V6 and the WAS) released at the same time, with the inference that they somehow work together?

    Thank you,
    Wanda

RE: field rules lookup table and field to fill

I read in the release information about apha 5 version 7 that it is possible to add field constraints on the web form level in that version....

I really liked the concept of the desktop version in alpha5 V6: Define your database with columns and all the field rules at the database level. Then generate the desktop forms based on that. Database integrity that way is guaranteed assuming you have setup all the field rules correctly.

Now what I see in the WAS is that the rules (at least most of them) are not adopted to the web forms but in rel 7 the option is given to add them to the Web forms. That is if I understand the release information correcrly...

I would like to have seen that the field rules are adopted to the web forms first with the possibility to override them at the web form level.

I sure hope this will be considered in a new version of the system. And that all the good stuff in the desktop version, which was the reason to purchase Alpha for most users anyway, is copied in the WAS also. This way Alpha would really have a product which truly stands out above anything else in the market...

      Alpha team...?

Field rules triggered by record events are not supported by grids. Grids do support autoincrement fields.

          Thanks Edward,

I went into my app to test, again, the auto-increment, and will need to get back to this. Look for my next post of a very peculiar screenshot of what just happened in my v7 beta version - it'll be titled, "This will blow your socks off..."

Just to clarify, as I am used to an auto increment field to populate upon opening a new record. In the WAS, it fills in when the Submit button is clicked...
