Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Profile window text TOO LARGE

    Good morning,

Please see the attached screen shot to see that I am unable to set up any profiles because the window text is too large. How can I correct this? I've gone through the Windows settings and have indicated "normal" font size, and rebooted.

I am not able to proceed until a remedy is found for this problem. Anyone else have this problem, initially? Any ideas appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Wanda

    Wanda,

Have you checked View " Settings to see if you have a font setting for one of the Alpha Five modes that corresponds to what you see?

From your screenshot, your computer display settings are using a very large font. Go to Windows Display properties
and select Appearance. Select Windows Standard as the Scheme. Perhaps the scheme you are using is actually using a large font for "normal" You should also check your video adapter settings from the Display, Settings Tab, Advanced button. Many video adapters allow setting the font size independently. The correct setting is probably Small fonts, or Normal fonts (96 dpi)

        Hi Jerry,
Thank you for those ideas, but I've done all that you suggest and the problem persists. The font sizes for everything else on my computer don't appear as these Alpha one's do, and as far as I know now, it's only the two that are in the attached screenshots...Edward L at Alpha is checking into the problem. As for me, I'm struggling with patience...

        Thanks again,
        Wanda

Have you tried reinstalling A5v6? You can download the trial version and reinstall the program.
You can also go into the registry editor and delete everything under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Alpha Software "i"except"/i" for the \init\email and \USER nodes, which reference your email settings and your registration key. I wouldn't remove them all at the same time, since I'm not sure whether something else might be important, but you can certainly remove all the nodes that start as "xdialog." and other nodes that refer to positions of toolbars and size of toolbars. One of those in your system probably has a wrong value. Back up your registry before making the changes in case you mess it up!

Wanda, it is obvious from looking at the screenshots that your Windows settings are set to large fonts. Look at the window caption as well as the fonts in the task bar...they are all huge.

              Wanda,

I still am unable to reproduce this problem, even by messing with my Windows and IE font settings, though I am convinced they are related.

Please go to the interactive window and execute:
              ? a5.Get_Cached_Files_Path()

This will return a path. Please zip up and send me all the files in that path.

              Thanks,
              Aaron

                Hi Aaron,
It may appear obvious, but that is not the case...as I already stated. I shall take a screen shot of the settings if you'd like, to show you that it is definitely NOT the case. If that were the case, I'd have similar problems in other programs, and then it would be obvious. Since it is happening only in A5v6 WAS, and since the settings are set to "normal" font, I would place a million bucks on this.

                    Aaron,
I will do what you suggest in a few minutes. Know that the trial version I downloaded a couple/three months ago worked without a hitch on this same machine under the same settings.

                    Thank you,

RE: Profile window text TOO LARGE

Your screenshot clearly shows that your Windows fonts are larger than normal. Perhaps you need to toggle from Normal to Large then back to Normal again to reset them, but they are definitely not normal sized.

The trial version differs from the full version only by a license and activation key, so if it worked before and doesn't work now, something must have changed.

                        Aaron,
That is precisely the problem - yet it is ONLY with A5v6 WAS. I'm attaching screenshots of my settings.

The only thing different is that I had not downloaded patches for the trial version (as far as I can remember), but I did for the purchased version.

                        Please stay tuned.

                        Thank you,

This is not an issue of text size, but rather a missing file. If you unzip the attached into the "[Alpha 5 EXE path]\a5css" it should fix the problem. Make sure the file: "[Alpha 5 EXE Path]\a5css\property_dialog\default.css" exists.

                            Hi Evan,

Thank you - but still no luck. I found the default.css file and unzipped your attachment in the property_dialog folder in the C:\program files\a5v6\a5css\

Anything else you can think of to try?

I'm gong back to working with the registry keys, now and will post another question for Peter, if you don't mind taking a look at his suggestions and my trials there.

                              Peter,

I'm assuming you mean to delete everything IN the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ALPHA SOFTWARE folder...not "everything UNDER" that folder, right?

If that's the case, the only file in that folder is named (Default), and the Type of file is REG_SZ, with the Data value (value not set).

I'm hesitant to delete "everything UNDER" that folder... please see attached screenshot of everything "under" that folder.

So, delete just the REF_SZ file? I tried copying it to a new folder, but all it wanted to do was copy the "name" of the file...

I'm so lost and my IT department is now seriously thinking they've purchased the wrong product, which was, of course, in large part based on my recommendation to purchase it. I absolutely must perform/produce with A5v6 and the WAS, and this is day 4 (32 hours so far...) in trying to simply get it to work - period.

Thank you, Peter, Edward, Aaron, Jerry, but there's something else we're all missing.

I'll wait for more ideas, and this afternoon uninstall a5v6 and the WAS and reinstall it - instead of simply reinstalling it (which doesn't fix the problem, either).
