Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to set a button to open a new a5w page

    I simply wish to create a push button on a page using the a5w editor and enable that button to open another a5w page. I dont know where to put the action code for the button or what the best code is to use.

    Basically a button on page1.a5w to open page2.a5w thats it.

    RE: How to set a button to open a new a5w page

    I have created a page called Selected_Customer_Record which shows details of a table containing users and details. This has a field called employeeid which is my link to the assetlist table which also contains the employeeid field.

    The Selected_Customer_Record.a5w page contains the following syntax which is my button within it

    "form name=assetlist action=AssetList.a5w?assetlist_Filter=Employeeid={employeeid}
    method=post {employeeid}?""input class=" " type=submit value="Asset List" name=label"
    "/form"

    I am trying to open the assetlist.a5w which only displays the records containg the same employeeid no which is currently showing on the selected user.

    When i select the button.....

    The assetlist.a5w page opens but instead of getting the asset details, i get

    Error 4 - Filter expression has error: Employeeid={employeeid}

    What am i missing? Help Please....

      Your filter is one of the problems. You are trying to use{employeeid} in your filter but {employeeid} is a field place holder that is used within a component not a valid variable.

          I'm guessing that the AssetList.a5w contains a grid component that displays records from the Asset table. If so you would have to get the employee ID into a variable prior to opening the AssetList.a5w page(possibly by selecting the employee from a grid). Then in the component overide section on the AssetList.a5w page you need to filter the Asset grid. example:dbf.filter = "employeeid="+quote{session.employeeid)

            Im feeling a bit blind at the moment so forgive me.

            How do i get the employee ID into a variable prior to opening the AssetList.a5w page?

            I tried copying the following exactly in line 8 but get

            500 Internal Server Error
            Script Error
            Error:line:8 Expected value

            is there any other related code that goes with

            dbf.filter = "employeeid="+quote{session.employeeid)

            Thanks for being patient.

              How are you selecting the employee that you want to work with?

                I am selecting the employeeid via a link field on a page

                AssetList.a5w?assetlist_Filter=Employeeid="{employeeid}"

                This alows me to click on the employeeid field and full details of that employee appear on the next page. I then want to put an independent button on the new page called asset and it will bring up all assets assigned to that user.

                    Denis,

                    Instead of putting the filter in the button, you could put the filter in the page that shows the list of assets.

                    Put the employee id into a session variable, then either create a filter in the web component, or add a filter to the page containing that component.

                    For example, I use the second approach in a page that looks at a list of companies. The list id is the filter (in your case employee id).

                    with tmpl_Co_List
                    componentName = "Co_List"
                    '==== add filter for the list ====
                    if eval_valid("session.vsLi_Id")=.t.
                    .DBF.filter = "Li_Id=" + quote(session.vsLi_Id)
                    end if
                    '==== end of list filter ====
                    end with
