Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Apache Module

    Hi

    I'm trying to setup the Apache module (on Win32 Apache 2.0.54). First off I thought it best to follow the example in the documentation which should redirect the browser to yahoo.com when http://myapacheserver/index.a5w is entered. However, having inserted the following at the bottom of the load module section in the httpd.conf, it fails to start Apache on a restart:

    LoadModule AlphaFive_module modules/mod_AlphaFive.so

    "files ~ \.a5w$"
    SetHandler AlphaFive-handler
    "/files"

    A5Server www.yahoo.com
    A5RequestTimeout 30
    A5RecoveryTime 20

    "location /CustomerService"
    SetHandler AlphaFive-handler
    A5Server * 9000
    A5Server Server1.com 9008
    A5RequestTimeout 12
    A5RecoveryTime 21
    "/location"

    Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

    Thanks
    James

    RE: Apache Module

    You have several definitions of A5Server; I don't think that's the right way to set it up and it may confuse Apache.

      RE: Apache Module

      What is the error message you get when you try to start Apache? Without that, I'm just guessing. But it seems like you may have forgotten the LoadModule line, which would make the configuration you included above invalid to Apache.

        RE: Apache Module

        A5Server can have multiple definitions and can be defined at multiple levels. If there is an A5Server defined at the global level, it will be the default for all requests. This can then be overidden within a "files", "location" or "virtualhost" section

          Peter/Lenny

          Thanks for coming back to me. I have reduced the number of server entries I had but I still get the error. I have attached the httpd.conf file and a word doc containing screen shots of the error message.

          I think the error relates to the "location" command. If I exclude:
          "location"
          SetHandler AlphaFive-handler
          SetHandler AlphaFive-handler
          A5Server *81
          "/location"

          Apache will restart. I can also get the Admin status page to display (also attached).

          The setup I have is as follows:
          Apache running on port 80
          A5Web running on port 81

          No virtual hosts configured and Apache/A5Web path to the default apache path, htdocs, which is where the *.a5w pages are located. My aim is use the SSL feature only.

          I hope this makes some sense, I'm not familiar with Apache (yet!).

          Thanks

              RE: Apache Module

              James,
              I haven't used, or needed to use, either the "files" or the "location" directive to Apache.
              Here is the configuration that works for me:
              Apache listening on port 80.
              WAS listening on port 81.
              Following lines in httpd.conf:
              LoadModule AlphaFive_module modules/mod_AlphaFive.so
              A5Server localhost 81
              A5RequestTimeout 30000

              and then in a "VirtualHost" section:
              "VirtualHost *:80"
              Servername checkbook
              SetHandler AlphaFive-handler
              A5HandleFiles *
              DocumentRoot "c:/A5Webroot/Checkbook"
              A5Remap Prefix /Checkbook
              "/VirtualHost"

              In my windows\system32\drivers\etc directory there is a file called "hosts" which you can edit with Notepad. You have to edit it something like this:

              127.0.0.1 localhost employee wms checkbook js

              That tells Windows that if you type "http://checkbook" in your browser, it will direct the search to the localhost on port 80, or Apache. Note I have several aliases for localhost and each one corresponds to a different virtual host for Apache.

              In my example I have published the web pages to c:\a5webroot\checkbook

              Hope this helps. You don't need the "files" or "location" directives.

                  I know everyone but me is at the conference, but I will be able to go next year and meet you all.
                  I am trying to set up the Apache Module in WAS to work with 5 websites that I have.
                  I tried to follow the directions and this thread, and I THINK I'm pretty close, but I'm stuck.

                  I have a dedicated Win2003 Server running WAS. It's also running IIS, so I didn't want to break it so I'm running Apache on Port 8080 and WAS on 8081.

                  I have included the following lines in my Apache Config file:

                  LoadModule AlphaFive_module modules/mod_AlphaFive.so

                  A5Server localhost 8081
                  #A5RequestTimeout 30000

                  <VirtualHost *:8080>
                  Servername azding.com
                  SetHandler AlphaFive-handler
                  A5HandleFiles *
                  DocumentRoot "C:/A5Webroot/AZding.com"
                  A5Remap Prefix /AZding.com
                  </VirtualHost>

                  <VirtualHost *:8080>
                  Servername asboding.com
                  SetHandler AlphaFive-handler
                  A5HandleFiles *
                  DocumentRoot "C:/A5Webroot/ASBOding.com"
                  A5Remap Prefix /ASBOding.com
                  </VirtualHost>

                  <VirtualHost *:8080>
                  Servername yourdingto.com
                  SetHandler AlphaFive-handler
                  A5HandleFiles *
                  DocumentRoot "C:/A5Webroot/YourdingTo.com"
                  A5Remap Prefix /YourdingTo.com
                  </VirtualHost>

                  <VirtualHost *:8080>
                  Servername dingChamber.com
                  SetHandler AlphaFive-handler
                  A5HandleFiles *
                  DocumentRoot "C:/A5Webroot/dingchamber.com"
                  A5Remap Prefix /dingchamber.com
                  </VirtualHost>

                  <VirtualHost *:8080>
                  Servername ding.net
                  SetHandler AlphaFive-handler
                  A5HandleFiles *
                  DocumentRoot "C:/A5Webroot/ding.net"
                  A5Remap Prefix /ding.net
                  </VirtualHost>

                  I have also added to my hosts file the following:

                  127.0.0.1 localhost
                  127.0.0.1 localhost azding.com
                  127.0.0.2 localhost youdingto.com
                  127.0.0.3 localhost ding.net
                  127.0.0.4 localhost dingchamber.com
                  127.0.0.5 localhost asbding.com

                  I have published the A5Trail website to ONLY azding.com directory

                  If I am local on my server and I go into my browser and type:
                  http://www.azding.com:8080 I get the A5Trail website ( I was very happy)
                  http://www.azding.com:8081 gives me a 403 Forbidden Error which I suspect is correct.

                  Again, local on my server, I go into my browser and type:
                  http://www.dingchamber.com:8080 I get the A5Trail website even though the dingchamber directory is empty??

                  I get the same results going thru the internet, but I suspect I need to get the local working first.

                  If anyone has some time to help me, I sure would appreciate it.

                  I know that once I get it right, I'll be able to add and add and life will be good.

                  These website names are not the actual names that I use, but should work to demonstrate what I'm doing.

                  I am using A5V7, I posted in the wrong forum.

                  Thanks,
                  Alan Sawyer

                    I did find a pattern though. What VirtualHost is first is the one that ALL the domains use, so in other words.
                    If I make azding.com's virtual host first, then http://www.azding.com:8080 and also http://www.yourdingto.com:8080 go to the same webpages.
                    If I put yourdingto.com's as the first virtual host then it becomes the default.

                    I also now see in the Apache log that it's saying that the port 8080 is a duplicate and it's taking precedence with the first one. I guess that's why it's showing all websites as though they were the first.

                    But I'm looking in the install instructions for the module, and that's how it's showing it.

                    Can someone tell me what I need to do differently?

                    Thanks,

                    Alan

                      I think it may be fixed.
                      I had forgotten the namevirtualhost directive.
                      Sorry for the drawn out posts when it was just me..

                      Thanks to Gary Buschuk for helping me. He said to make sure of two things, and that was one of them.

                      Eventually I'll figure it out.

                      Thanks,

                        Take a closer look at your Apache configuration, you don't have a server named www.azding.com so the server defaults to the first vhost defined.
