Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    multiple domains

    Hi
I have the was working on my server but I have to put the document root pointing to one particular domain to make it work.

On my server I have several domains all under a sub directory d:\default\.....

Can someone point me to the help file that tells me how to set up the was so that all of my web sites can use the was?

    thanks

    RE: multiple domains

The Web Application Server does not support virtual hosting. You can set your web root as d:\default and have your users access your sites as

    http://server/site1
    http://server/site2
    etc

Or you can consider our Apache module. Using it you can enable virtual hosting, but you will need to go through a more complex configuration process. You can contact [email protected] for purchasing info.

      RE: multiple domains

      Thanks lenny

just to clarify (I'm a bit dense)

I can see setting the root to d:\default but when you say

      http://server/site1
      http://server/site2

are you saying I create directories called site1,site2,etc and locate these within d:\default?

      thanks

            RE: multiple domains

            Hi Lenny

Craving your indulgence but this is beginning to get to me so can I ask the questions in the simplest of terms so that I can grasp where Im going wrong.

My web sites are on the server in the directory

            D:\home\Default

So I have set the document root to

            D:\home\Default

Under that tree ie in the default directory I have for arguments sake two sites

            Alpha5-usergroup.co.uk

            And licensedstocktaker.co.uk

Both of these have alpha5 applications.

When The Alpha5 site is published it is published to http://www.alpha5-usergroup.co.uk/ and the files are place in the htdocs directory

The licensedstocktaker.co.uk files are published in the htdocs directory of that web site.

When calling the applications from say buttons I would normally use an Href pointing to say http://www.licensedstocktaker.co.uk/locate.a5w

Are you saying the href should be

http://server/alpha5-usergroup.co.uk and http://server/licensedstocktaker.co.uk or should server be changed to something?

I really am sorry if Im being dense but I seem unable to grasp your meaning.

            Thanks a lot

            Ian

No, your appliocation is not published there. http://www.alpha5-usergroup.co.uk/ is a URL and you must publish to a folder. When you say you are publishing to the htdocs directory, I assume you mean you are publishing to some location other than under D:\home\Default . If that is the case, the Web Application Server cannot work with what you are publishing. The "documnet root", which you say is set to D:\home\Default, is the root directory for the Web Application Server and it can only access files and folders that are within this location.

"server" was a placeholder because I had no idea what your server's name was.

If your server is www.licensedstocktaker.co.uk and you have your document root set to D:\home\Default, you would publish one site to D:\home\Default\site1 and the second to D:\home\Default\site2. Your two functionl URLs would then be http://www.licensedstocktaker.co.uk/site1/ for site1 and http://www.licensedstocktaker.co.uk/site2/ for site 2.

In the above, "site1" and "site2" are not significant names, you can replace them with anything you'd like. What is significant is that the name of the folder you create under D:\home\Default is the same folder name you append to your URL.

As I mentioned above, the Web Application Server does not support virtual hosting. Virtual hosting would be where you have http://www.licensedstocktaker.co.uk go to your first site and http://www.alpha5-usergroup.co.uk/ go to your second site.

In order to enable virtual hosting, you would need the Apache module. I believe Brett tried to conatct you to give you the details of it. The information you recieved from Adi was not accurate.
