    Default Format changes on uploading

    Help please.

I uploaded a page based on gridlinker to the web but discovered that the formatting of my currency fields change from $'s (dollars) to £'s (pounds) in the process. I checked my original grid format and they are still in pounds.

Any reasons why the change and any solutions.

    Thank You
    Robert

    Additional information

When I publish to the local webroot the format of the currency field remains as set i.e. £'s (pounds). When Ipublish to Alpha5host the currency appears in $'s (dollars).

Is this a problem at the hosting end or in the software.

    Any suggestions

    Robert

Not sure that this helps but does the host have the latest update? Other than that the only thing that I could think of to try would be to delete the offending file and then upload a fresh copy.

Thanks for your response John. I'll contact the host - Had no success in deleting and uploading again.

Robert, the number formats in Alpha Five are dependent on the machine on which it is installed. If you develop an app on a computer with UK formatting and then upload to a server with US formatting, your app will inherit the US formatting from the server. You'll need to speak to your hosting provider about possibly setting up a server for youthat uses UK formats.

I encountered the same problem with the dutch date format.

It would be really nice if Alphasoftware would find a way to let the WAS use presentation formats that are specified in the database in stead of in the operating system.

Another suspected area: using international characters in records (René) gives sometimes weard displays in browsers. I found that changing the character coding in the browser helps (once, for each load of a page).
    This is no fun!

Again: it would be nice if the WAS became independent of local national settings.

Suggestion: put them as a variable in de WAS publishing profile, or in the User Defined Default Property Values in the Grid Component, Options window.

    Another suspected problem:

defining a protected variable (session.__Protected__name) does not seem to work in a dutch environment. Is that because the underbar is coded differently?

We are exploring ways to specify formats at the page level instead of the system level. Doing it at the database would be of no use as the Web Application Server does not use databases.
