Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    getting started with web project

I just purchased a5v6 paid about 300+ dollars. I am trying to create web project and create a5 pages, grid components etc.
The problem I see is WAS does start but when I create web component, I get messages as
Script UI_DLG_box: line 91.... documenthtml subelement not found..
I tried to choose read only grid....updateable grid or specify search criteria... I get similar messages and do not know how to get started.
Also when I go to getting started tutotial, I can not access any tutorial.
My question is, do I have correct copy of the software?
Does 345 dollar copy does not include development of web projects?

Do you have the alphafivehelp.chm file installed in your A5V6 program directory? If not, you can download it from the Learning Center. You will find all the tutorials in the help file.

What build of A5v6 do you have? You can find this out from going to Help-"About.

              Lenny,
I had that patch already in my folder. I installed it just by double click on the file. system was rebooted.
but I see no difference in the build numbers and no difference in creating web component. I still get same messages.
I appreciate your help. I really need to get this going quick.
              Thank you

RE: getting started with web project

The problem you are experiencing is a known problem introduced by a Microsoft update. We released a work-around for this in March, but unless you have at least build 1554-2045, you will still encounter the problem.

When you run the patch, it should give you a chance to specify the folder that the update is applied to. You should make sure this path is correct.

Also, you mentioned that you just purchased A5v6. What was the date that you placed your order. Did you download it or recieve a CD shipped to you? I'd like to find out why you didn't get a newer version.

RE: getting started with web project

Well when I applied the patch, the folder was program files/a5v6 folder. that is where all files exist.
The software was purchased by my manager sometimes before march. He gave me a copy to work on the application. basically it is such a small file, i was wondering if the software is valid, how can it fit on pencil device of 128 meg storage.

                  Thank you

I removed your license number from your post above. You shouldn't post sesitive info such as that here as this is a public forum and someone else could use your license number and prevent you from activating your software.

Alpha Five itself should easily fit on a 128MB drive. It is about 35MB for the installer, or 80MB with all of the samples and documentation. The patches are about 15MB.

I suggest rebooting your computer and trying to install the patch again before running Alpha Five.

Did the patch apply this time?

                        If not

Were there any messages when you ran the patch?
How are you starting Alpha Five - a shortcut somewhere or directly from the A5v6 program group on your start menu?

                            Hello Leeny,
Thank you for providing me with your help. Finally it works. Actually the patch which I had on my desktop was old patch even though the name was same. so I overwrote on that file by downloading again and installed the newly downloaded patch. now i can create web component and hopefully i will make good progress.

                            Thank you for your persistence.
