Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    PDF Printing Problem

    Hi

I am stumped in trying to generate a PDF report from the Web Server. I have studied the "print invoice" from the Sample Web Application Server and when trying to implement it in my application I get "There is a problem in trying to open the webpage" error. This web page has the code to open the report. The Web page will open with out error if I don't have the xbasic code for printing a PDF. The following line out of the sample code appears to be my problem in calling the report:

    filename = report.saveas("Invoice@"adb_path"\invoice.set","pdf",filter,order,filename,.f.)

This was from the sample code. I modified the code to call my report attached to it's set as:
    filename = report.saveas("my_report@"adb_path"\my_set.set","pdf",filter,order,filename,.f.)

Is there someting special that has to be done to the report itself or is there other considerations.

    Thanks for your help.

Jim, turn off friendly error in IE and you should get a more detailed error message.

      RE: PDF Printing Problem

      Hi Lenny

I turned of the setting and got this error:
      500 Internal Server Error
      Script Error
      Error:Script:generic_layout_save_as line:110
      No printer configured

Alpha Five Web Application Server/6.0 Build/1549 at COMPANY05 Port 8080

The server has the PDF driver as well as a local printer. The Web Application Server sample of the print invoice works fine also, just not mine.

      Thanks for the help

          Jim:

Do you have these printers set-up on your machine?
          See Attachment.

I am pretty sure that Alpha Installed these drivers. I can't don't think we ever added printers.

            Hi John

I'll check that when I am back in the office on Monday. I believe if they are needed, they are there since the Web Application sample works fine.

                Hi Selwyn

I tried the interactive window and got the same error, "No printer configured"

John Bowen also asked to check that the pdf, text, rtf and html drivers are on the server. They are not.

I uninstalled and re-installed the Alpha5V6 software and it will not install these drivers like on a workstation. Do you know how I can get them loaded.

We are using Windows Server 2003

                Thanks

                  RE: PDF Printing Problem

Jim, take a look at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;282011
                  and
                  http://www.amyuni.com/en/support/faq3.html#3g
                  - there is some special configuration required for the PDF drivers on Windows 2003.

That was the key, the printer files were not installed. Lenny gave me the Microsoft link to correct this.

                        Thanks again.
