Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    nestle alpha code into java code?

    In the included for() java code, Alpha is evaluated only once while the rest of the Java code works as it should. The test I have is increasing a variable by one each time the loop is run, the loop runs as it should however alpha's variable is not increased.

    IS THERE A WAY to read a java variable, or what am I missing with my script?

    "script language="javascript""
    "!--
    function Del(kount) {
    for(var i = 1; i " kount+1; i++){
    var Item = "Item"+i+".checked";
    "%A5
    n=1+n
    %"
    if(eval(Item))
    {
    "%A5
    t=table.open("shopcart")
    if t.records_get()"0 then
    t.fetch_goto(n)
    t.change_begin()
    t.delete()
    t.change_end(.t.)
    end if
    t.close()

    %"

    alert("Item"+i+"%A5 ? str(n) %")}
    }
    }
    --"
    "/script"

    thanks Jack

    RE: nestle alpha code into java code?

    I finally got it,,,, I do not need to use anything other than Alpha on my webpages. I have struggled with this for two months now and today I found what I needed using checkboxes to delete particular records, to highlight particular records and with the use of arrays, I did what I tried to do in less than twenty minutes.

    Proves to me that I need to study the manual extensively if I plan on exceling with Alpha..... Jack

      RE: nestle alpha code into java code?

      Jack,

      The reason that you were having a problem is that the Xbasic code is executed on the server, then the page is sent to the browser. At that point there is no Xbasic left. The browser will then execute any Javascript you have included.

      The concepts of server-side and client-side processing are important to understand. Xbasic is server-side and Jaascript is client-side.

      While you no longer need to, if you wanted to use Javascript, you would need Xbasic to generate the Javascript code for you with the appropriate looping. The client would then have the full script required to produce the results you are after.

          Actually, Lenny, I do have a question dealing with the checkbox age[1] example in the manual.

          I was trying to loop through checked records using xbasic, and was only able to do this using the age[].dump() text.

          Here is what I did, I selected 3 of 6 choices. Then I set a variable to the age[].dump text. Although the text looked like this
          1

          3
          4

          the w_count() function game me the number 3, word(text,1)=1,second word is 3 and the third word is 4

          I was able to now set up a loop, find the appropriate records and do what I needed to do... My question is, is this the right way to deal with the checkboxes?

            That is one way to go through your array. You could also use a FOR loop or FOR EACH

              Jack, I've tried to send you a response to your email that you sent me, but it keeps bouncing. I had this problem last week as well. Can you please send me another email with your correct address in case I have it wrong? Thanks.
