Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    You're Invited!

Our web store powered by Alpha Six WAS is finally on line and pumping in a lot of business. Everything was written in html with some help from the report-to-file printing feature of Alpha Four, which wrote calculated fields that contained the repetitive html code and field output used for the check boxes and price look-ups we used on the stand alone pages. Stop by and have a look!

All our best for a safe and rest-filled Christmas, and a way better 2005,

      Hi Burt,

Wow! Well done, your's is the first A5v6 WAS commercial website I've seen up & running.

Several people have asked me where they can see one - I'll now be able to refer them to your site as a great example of what can be done with the A5v6 WAS.

You've inspired me to get back to trying to make my own A5v6 WAS website to work.

And yes indeed "a way better 2005" for you too,

      Best regards,

          RE: You're Invited!

May I ask a few questions::

          1) How was the bastien.a5w page built? Is that two grid components on one A5W page? Or is it many grid components.

          2) How do you assign the MusicBag Number (e.g.: "10007822")? Is that assigned for every unique session or does it look for a cookie? It seems to pass a cookie to my computer because it remembered my Number over a two day span.

          3) Are those inventory descriptions (e.g.: "Folk Tune Favorites 1 $4.45" hard coded in the WAS page or maintained in the database?

My live WAS is at http://support.attorneystrust.com:81 if you want to look at another example.

            RE: You're Invited!

The Bastien page and all the stand-alone pages like it are primarily hard-coded, not grid compenents. The prices are lookupn() functions. The code for the whole table, along with the sequential check boxes and the lookupn()price code, was generated from the catalog table by the print-to-file feature of the report generator of Alpha Four (we still use Alpha Four as our primary database program; it's much more keyboard friendly and way easier to program than anything since!).

The cookie generates the cart number, or keeps the old one. If you're machine hasn't been here before, or if you've gone through the checkout, you get a new number. If you've been here before and/or haven't been through the checkout, your number stays the same.

The descriptions are stored in the catalog table.

This tool may be useful to those who want to demo their WAS applications.

Disclaimer: This tool is still in beta and I have not tried it myself.

HOUSTON, Jan. 24, 2005 Advanced Reality, the company that makes applications collaborative, today announced JYBE, a free browser plug-in for both Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) and Mozilla Firefox that allows two or more people to surf the web together regardless of their geographic location. JYBE, which also adds instant messaging to IE and Firefox, has a limitless range of business and consumer applications. For example, JYBE can be used to conduct free online presentations, browse web real estate listings with a broker, and provide Internet call centers with new service and support capabilities. Meanwhile, consumers can link-up with friends and family to go shopping online and visit their favorite news, entertainment, or research sites. JYBE installs in less than 1 minute and is available at: http://www.jybe.com/download/index.aspx or at www.jybe.com.

JYBE transforms the ubiquitous web browser into a collaboration tool. It is easy-to-use and requires no training. Upon installation JYBE adds a simple three-button toolbar to the familiar IE and Firefox user interface. These buttons allow the user to create a collaboration session, join a collaboration session, and end a collaboration session. When the create a collaboration session button is clicked the user is prompted to enter their name and a session name. Multiple users can join the same session, which allows all participants to navigate the web in lockstep. Unlike screen sharing products JYBE does not slow down web page response times.
