    Default chm help file

If there is one, a CHM for Version 5 only.

I doubt they will do it for v5 since they are no longer updating v5. However, if you are interested just in the xbasic commands, you can download my A5v5 Help file (.hlp) from this page: www.aimsdc.net/Tips_Funcs/A5v5_Help.htm.

After v6 was released, I changed to price to 'free'.

Thanks Cal. I like your help files - been using them since V5-4. A problem I have begun to run into recently is that the chm help file will sometimes be erroneous as to whether it is available in V5. Unfortunately, right now I don't recall specifically, but something that it said was in V6 and up was also available in V5. So I have started typing the characters to see what functions etc. actually are available in V5. While I always save all patches, I haven't saved copies of the chm, which I now wish I had. Like it would be really kool to find the last chm that referenced v5 only.

Martin, there are a few functions documented as V6+ that may work in V5, but they are unsupported there and probably will not work reliably. You should consider the documentation to be accurate regarding these functions and not depend on them in V5.

I have a set of .chm files (xbasic reference, xdialog reference, action scripting) with a born-on date of 8/26/2003 and some .exe files (intro_action_script, learn_xbasic, learn_xdialog) dated 8/15/2003.

Assuming the copyright rules would permit I'd be glad to burn you a cd containing those. (28 meg seems a bit much to email)

Thanks Lenny. Stan, that would be great - but I have a super fast broadband connection (6 Megabits/persec) and I am sure I can receive a file that large. But unless you also have a fast broadband, mail would be fine.

I'm on a company connection on a shared t-1 line. I'll try an email of one of the files and you can advise.

Default Alphafive.chm help file in categories

(not so) Long time ago Alpha Software offered seperate chm-helpfiles
    such as: Xbasic_reference.chm; Xdialog_reference.chm; WebPublishingReference.chm; WebPublishingtutorial.chm and so on.

The advantage of those files is when you do a search.
Do a search on "mask" or "template" and you can spend an hour or more reading all the helpfilepages that appear in a big list.

Same as looking for "George" in the telephone book of the whole USA: You will not find the man you 're looking for.

Sometimes I still use the (old) categorial .chm files but as they are never updated .....
I am not webbing at all, so when I search in alphafivehelp.chm it would be nice NOT to get all of the web-matches.

It would be nice if we could get (once a year?) separated helpfiles for the important categories.

Maybe there is there someone who can google with alphafivehelp.chm?
