Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    PRINTING PICTURES

Have Alpha4,Ver 7.01, and I have tried several ways to print pictures on report for each member of my Choir. In fact I have not been able to get A4 to print any pictures.
I think I have followed the instructions in the Ver 6 reference manual to no avail. Any suggestions

Try opening your pictures with Paint and then saving them as bit maps. Sometimes the original format of the picture is not being recognized by A4.

      RE: PRINTING PICTURES

Thanks for the tip, but it is not working for me.

To further identify what I have and am doing:

My system is a Dell 8200,Windows XP, home edition operating system, with an HP 6MP(laser, Black and White) and an HP 962C(Ink Jet, Color) printers. I have printed many pictures using several software packages on both printers and will continue to do so. In the past I have used A4 for reports and then print the the appropriate picture using MS Publisher.

In the present situation, I have a Member database with character field called PICTURE,which holds the filename of the member's picture in quotes, ie, "C:\A4V7\PIC\O37.XXX" (XXX bing the format extension for the picture in PCX,TIF,or BMP.) On my report I have created a Picture Object and in the Information dialog box, have entered the fieldname of PICTURE.

I would like for report to print in compress format but have tried it in regular format, 6 and 8 lpi, but I am not getting a read. I put the picture on disk and changed location accordingly and it is not hitting the disk.

      Where am I wrong?

        RE: PRINTING PICTURES

The only thing that I can suggest is to recreate your picture and try again. For some reason, either A4 doesn't recognize the format or your printer driver is not comminicating with A4 properly.

          RE: PRINTING PICTURES

I print reports on both printers using A4V7, but cannot get pictures to print - it appears the printers drivers are OK.

I have used "Print" and Photo Shop" to recreate and resize pictures in PCX, TIF, and BMP format. I have experimited changing the format of how I idintify the location of the pictures. Reports in 6LPI or 8LPI, Compressed and Non-Compressed and every other way I can think of.

I could not get Version 6 to print pictures, now it is the same with version 7. I must be doing somthing wrong if someone else is printing pictures in reports. Have you printed pictures using A4? You guessed it - I'm am a little flustered over the matter. I will continue to use other software to print pictures on A4 reports.

Thanks for your time - I think I will put this one aside for the time being.
