Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Win98SE.

Right-click the Alpha icon in the system tray, and select "configure e-mail".

What settings are in there? (Disguise any confidential info!)

RE: V8 internal email client use on win98???

      MAILHOST NAME: smtp.perinentinformation.com

      SMTP PORT: 25

      EMAIL ADDRESS: [email protected]

      XMAILER: blank

My server requires authentication, so "Authentication required" is selected, and user name and password are appropriately entered.

Please keep in mind, if I do not hard-code the email address information into the report, alpha's internal email client pops up, I enter the To: and Subject: as needed, and the email sends fine - and is received on the other end.

      Kind of perplexing, eh?

      Thanks again,
      Mike

RE: V8 internal email client use on win98???

I just tried installing A4V8 on a WinME PC. I'm shaking my head...same thing as with the 3 Win98 PC's. Email won't go if hard-coded in report. They will go if I enter information in Alpha's email client manually when no email information is hard-coded in report.

        :(

I've got to be doing something wrong.

          Mike

What you are doing looks fine to me. I have just set up a simple report here, configured the e-mail internal client to run, and hard-coded the email address into the report header. It works fine.

A long shot - could your report layout be corrupt? Have you rebuilt it (or a simple test report) from scratch?

Why don't you send me the report (or even a cut-down copy of your app) and I will put it into my installation and see if it works here. It's probably caused by something really simple, and a second pair of eyes often helps...

RE: V8 internal email client use on win98???

            Good morning Paul,

I just tried emailing a report by making a new report for one of alpha's sample db's. Same thing...looks like it's being sent, but nothing goes.

You know...for my ISP, my username is my email address: [email protected].

I wonder if winagent does not like that? As I understand, MOST usernames (I believe) are the part of the email address that is to the left of the @ symbol. Mine is he whole email address. I will try without this to see what happens.

Update: I received a new winagent.exe file from Pawan and I can now email reports from within A4. I have not yet discussed the cause, but it now works. I think it was something with my ISP. I'll try to learn and post back so others can be more informed.

              thanks,
