Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Full-screen Lock-up

I have a P4, 1.8Ghz, 512Mb, 120Gb drive, SIS chipset motherboard with a NVidia Geforce4 AGP card. I had upgraded to Win2k from Win98SE by doing a fresh install. This was about 3 months ago. A4V7.02 worked fine in full-screen. then I did the same thing again to the same machine (don't ask why) and now A4V7.02 won't run full-screen. The only thing I did differently from the two installs is that Microsoft change the service pack updates. Three months ago I recall having to install SP1, SP3, and SP4. Now they have you install SP1 and SP4 only. Am I on the right track or has someone else seen this? Any suggestions/replies would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, I have the same problem, I think. I can't get the screen to take up more than about 1/3 to 1/2 of the screen. Let me know what you did, please! My old eyes can't really read such a small screen!

In the Windows Icon, or Shortcut to Alpha4, under Fonts tab, set available font types to "both types", and Font size to "auto", in the screen tab, set usage at "full screen" and initial lines at 25.

              RE: Full-screen Lock-up

My problem was that Alpha4v7 would not run in "Full-screen" mode. The answer for me was that the driver I had installed for my NVidia video card had installed files for NT4.0 driver developers. If you think that this is your problem and it is on a Win2k, XP(Home or Pro), or Win2003 Server box search your drive for a file named "winio.sys" without quotes and delete it. Win2k and newer access devices in protected mode and older versions in real mode. After doing this everything will still work. An example of this is with parallel port printer drivers. In the older versions the drivers could access the port w/ an irq request, but because of the newer OSes acting more like a multitasking invironment the OS doesn't let programs have total control over hardware. WINIO.SYS is a way that the older OSes would send there data to the devices, but in real mode. Sorry about the rambling, I hope this helps all of you. By the way, I got my first notification of a reply to my question today 2-27-04 so I'm sorry to you all waiting for my reply.
