Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Printing multiple reports per line item

I am using a modified version of the application that comes with alpha four for invoicing. I am using it in a manufacturing environment and the lineitems are orders for pieces of furniture. One lineitem may have only one piece while another line may have 4 pieces. I have set up a report using one level of grouping and am printing out production tickets for each line item. When it is one item I get one sheet which is great, but when it is 2 or more I still get one sheet which means I have to print copies on the copy machine to equal the correct total. Does anyone have an idea or routine that would allow me to print the correct amount on each line item. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Two thoughts come to mind.

    1. Use the label writer and fit all of your information on a label that is the size of a page. One of the label parameters is to produce x number of copies of each label - based on a constant, fieldname, or expression.

    2. Build a database (Kounter) that has a key that is 1, 2, 3, 4, etc to the maximum qty of a line item. Enter records into this database in the quantity of the key. IE, for key of 1 enter one record, for 2 enter two records, for 3 enter 3 records, and so on. Then make another set just like the one that you have now, but where this database is added as the lowest level database and you will have the records repeating the way you want them to.

You can then use the report builder for your report.

Watch your counts and subtotals. They may change now that there are more records.

Let us know how it works for you.

      Mike,

In addition to Al's ideas, you might try making a new set, and basing the report on the new set. This new set would contain the same tables, but their arrangement would be inverted, and the link 1:1.

        Al:

The label portion of Alpha4 would work great, but it only allows for about 20 lines and will not let you do a full page unless I have missed something in the setup. If you know of a way that I can get Alpha4 to give me a full page setup on mail labels that would be the fix I really need.

        Thanks,
        Mike

You are limited to 20 lines in the mail label. If you need more, you need to use the other idea that I gave you that will allow you to use the report writer instead of the mailing label writer.
