Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Can not set A4V8 "Shared Mode"

I cannot change the Multi-user Mode from NO to YES! Following are my basic information:

    1. A4V8, 3 user, Downloaded, Build 02/06/03
    2. A4V8 installed on 2 computers (upgraded from A4V7 single user), Windows 98 & Windows XP, Both use directory c:\A4V8
    3. Data is on Windows 98 computer c:\a4data. This directory is mapped by Windows XP machine as drive z:\
    4. After installation of alpha4v8, both computers can access all databases on 98 machine at the same time. Everything works fine. Then something happed; I do not what it was. Now only one computer can access the same database at same time.
    5. Hit F3 key on XP machine, shows: File Sharing Mode: Shared; Net Work Type: NetBios; Licensed User: 3; A4V8.NET directory: C:\A4V8\.
    6. Hit F3 key on 98 machine, shows: File Sharing Mode: Exclusive and Net Work Type, Licensed User, A4V8.NET director are all NOT showing.

This is what I did on Windows 98 machine:
    1. Main Menu,
    2. Select Other,
    3. Configuration,
    4. Default Settings,
    5. Multi-user Mode, change from NO to YES,
    6. Hit F10,
    7. Show up Warning: In order for multi-user mode changes to take effect you must quit now and restart the program.
    8. Hit F10
    9. Quit
    10. Restart Alpha4, Multi-user mode still shows as NO, hit F3, File Sharing Mode still shows as EXCLUSIVE
    11. Start from DOS prompt by type a4 /2, nothing changed, File Sharing Mode still show as EXCLUSIVE
    12. In Windows Start Menu, Program, Alpha Four V8, select Increase User Count, shows Total User: 3
    13. Delete A4V8 program, and reinstall, everything is the same.
    14. Copy A4V8 program files from XP machine, everything is the same.

Please help me to set Shared Mode
My email address on record of this Message Board is no long in use; I do not know how to change it. Please email response to [email protected]. Thanks.

Right click on Network Neigborhood, go to properties, select Netbeui or TCP/IP, go to its properties.

          RE: Can not set A4V8

I'm having the same problem....I've swithched protocals and this change didn't make any difference. Any other suggestions? I'm running win 98 on the 3 laptops. I'm using D-link cards. 2- DFE-690txd on the laptops that seem to be working fine, and a DFE-670txd on the "Bad" laptop.

          Thanks
