    client (e.g. Outlook, Eudora, etc.)
E-mail any report or letter as an Adobe Acrobat .PDF file using Alpha
    Four's built-in PDF converter.
E-mail any report or letter using Alpha Four's built-in
e-mail client. This allows you to keep a record of all e-mail sent in a
    standard Alpha Four database.
Perform mass customized e-mailings. Each person in your database
    receives a personalized e-mail message.
Create scripts that completely automate sending customized e-mail
    messages with no user intervention.
Send reports as faxes using the built-in fax software (requires
    version with fax support).
Send bulk fax jobs. Each person in your database receives a
personalized fax message (requires version with fax support).

    Benefits:

    Deliver reports to recipients automatically.
Integrate e-mail and fax into your applications with scripts. For
example, every time an operator enters a customer order, automatically
send an e-mail or fax confirmation (requires version with fax support).
Create applications that automatically deliver statements, thank you
letters, solicitations, demand letters etc. to your customer base via
e-mail or fax (requires version with fax support). Complete the task of
sending out these mailings in a fraction of the time and cost that sending
them out manually would have taken.

Will V8 improve Alpha 4s performance in Windows XP - such as the disappearing act of V7 while printing reports or the change in color?

    Selwyn;
The new printing options in V8 seem very exciting. I have reviewed (quickly) the documentation on V8 and did not find any mention of "typeset" printing. Will these new options in V8 allow you to e-mail or fax a typeset layout?

    Dear Selwyn,

Can previous versions of Alpha Four, such as V6, work with V7 or V8?

    Thanks,

I'm not so concerned about the color changes, but many of my reports won't print since I've upgraded to XP. V7 was working great on Windows 95 and took care of the crashing problems I was having with V6.
V7 will print some of the reports without any problems, but many of them cause Alpha to just close down - even when I try to Print to Screen.
I posted a message on this board about it and someone suggested that there was a problem with the reports. I've tried deleting them and recreating them, but still having the problem. They are mainly invoices with calculations or plain packing slips with many calculations.
I will gladly upgrade to V8 if you think it may take care of this.

    Thanks for your help.

    Joan,

I use A4V6 on a little 3 user Win98SE network. I can't remember the last time A4 crashed. It used to crash very often, but that's when I tried to enter information into memo fields without first putting the form into change mode. Now that I put the form into change mode, almost never a crash.

I'm NOT an expert, but I might be inclined to think your crashing problems might have something to do with your settings, indexes, or maybe even how some of your field rules are setup. I'm not suggesting deleting anything and starting over from scratch because I really don't know where to tell you to look first. My first question would be, what is it that you are doing when the program crashes? Is the problem repeatable in the same circumstance?
