Default File not found or Access denied message

I finally have installed Version 7.0 on my main computer and created a database and an application. I need to work on this application while away and so loaded Version 7 on my laptop (which had Version 6 on it). The problem is loading all the database and application files to the laptop. I can view the database, but every time I try to add a record, change a form, and change a report, etc. I get the error message "File not found or access denied". Are there hidden database files that are missing here?

    Hi Jill

I downloaded V7 right into my V6 directory. This allows you to use your old applications etc, without a massive re-write.

    Jill,

If you used a CD to transfer the database files it's likely that they've now been marked readonly. They need to be changed back to readwrite, which is easy to do, but sometimes a bit tedious.

    Hi Tom,

Thank you. You're absolutely right. My files were read-only. Appreciate the help. I'll post my second and last problem with Alph4V7 in another message.

    Jill,

Don't feel badly. Many are unaware that a simple file copy causes the readonly attribute to be set when the destination is a cd. When the files are then copied from the cd to the 'real' destination the trouble starts.

One solution to this, by the way, is to zip all the files into a single zip file on your source hard drive. Copy the zip file to cd. Copy from the cd to the 'real' destination. The zip file is readonly, but who cares? The contents, when unzipped, are not.
