Printdump.exe will not run if it detects the only printers connected are network printers.

The file ptrinfo.A4 does not recognise them.

This of course means I cannot print at all from A4V7 to a network printer. Anyone ant ideas?

Gee, Lets hope they find the fix for that, I'm on a network too. I'm still using a4v6 because of the "blinking colours" problem. I guess I will have to wait for a fix for this one too.

    Hang in there,

    RS

I believe that there is a very easy solution to this.

    1. First of all Printdump.exe DOES recognize network printers, and a4V7 DOES print to network printers.

    2. Printdump.exe will not run if there are NO local printers defined. So just define one local printer. It does not matter what the printer is and that you will never use the printer, or that you don't even have a physical printer attached to the computer. Having created the local printer, printdump.exe will run and you will be able to print to your network printers.

My experience is that I cannot specify a local printer on the offending desktop unless I copy prtinfo.A4 to the Spool subdirectory. However in configuring the printer through the "PrinterConfiguration/Windows Printer Driver" screen, the only option available was the local (non-existent) printer. The same problem occurs with my own desktop in that although I do have a "real" local printer A4V7 does not "see" the network printers when I try to configure any of them.

I am on W2000 network - all Intel computers.

    robert:

can you please try this for us.
go to the dos prompt in the a4v7 folder, and type:

    printdump a4prndata.bin -debug > a4screen.log

this will run printdump with debugging information.

Then, please send the files to me at selwyn@alphasoftware.com:

    A4prndata.bin
    A4screen.log
    A4prndebug.log

I think we may be miscommunicating.

When I say "configure a local printer" I do not mean in A4. I mean click the Start button in windows, then select "settings", "printers"

For all that it is worth - I am using W98 SE with Lantastic V 8 as my network
I have a local printer (USB) attached but am printing to all my network printers via Version 7 with no problems.
