Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    ToolbarClock

    This is an update to the toolbar clock posted a few moths ago. Attached is a zip file that has the following instructions as well as each piece of code for the xdialog toolbar object in a separate text file.

    RE: ToolbarClock

    Attached is a zip file that contains a demo showing how to create a Toolbar Clock. The 3 "Clock Free Form Xdialog Event.txt" files were saved in the Alpha Sports directory. The exe movie demonstrates how to add the clock to the main menu toolbar in the Alpha Sports database. The clock can be added to any toolbar using the same method.

        What alterations would need to be made, if I wanted to put the Date (i.e Sunday, April 18 2004) also in the toolbar along with the date?

              Eddie,

              I've played with Jerry's code and got what you want.

              Change the Setup Code tab to read: v_Date = cdow(DATE())+" - "+CMONTH(DATE())+" "+DAY(DATE())+", "+YEAR(date())+" - "+time("0h:0m:0s AM")

              Then, change the Event Code second line to read: v_Date = cdow(DATE())+" "+CMONTH(DATE())+" "+DAY(DATE())+", "+YEAR(date())+" - "+time("0h:0m:0s AM")

              Finally, in the last line, change .16 to something like .60. The name of the month and name of the DOW control the length of the string, so you will have to pick a value long enough to display the greatest string length.

              Having said all that, I usually use Jerry's code as originally written and include the date as a global variable in the autoexec script and then place the date on all forms. No reason, I just do it that way.

                RE: ToolbarClock

                If anyone wants to increase the size of the clock, there are 3 places in the code you can tweak.

                {font=arial,18,i}
                [%O={B=Dream Spiral}{C=green} {@@}%.30,3^#vtb_time]

                The "18" next to the font is of course the font size. If you increase it like I did, you will have to make room for the display. This is done by changing the width of the field and the height.

                Right before the #vtb_time, you see .30,3 The .30 is the width of the field in characters and the 3 is the height in lines based on the default font.

                I also changed the background to the custom color used in my toolbars.

                If you're getting older, or just need new glasses like me, the larger clock is easier to read.

                Thanks Jerry for a neat tool,
                Jerry Gray

                  I tried the code, but keep getting an error. "Extra Characters at end of expression" I have tried to remove any spaces and such, but no avail. Anyone have advice?
