    Default Time Difference

Here's a v4.5 table & form that quickly shows you the difference between two dates and times.

I did it because I'm counting the days until I move to my new home, but I figured it would be nice to share with others too. :)

There's not much to the table, but it's needed because you can't have a form without one. :)

    Enjoy,
    Melvin

PS: If you found it useful, just drop me a note to say hi.

    Melvin,

A5v5 allows you to specify forms without tables by using Xdialog which is part of the new Xbasic language. Best of all is you don't need any programming skills as a genie will help you every step of the way.

    John.

Thanks for the info. But V5 wasn't around when I wrote this,
    and isn't officially yet.

I have the Beta, but I need to allocate the time to read through the Xdialogue information.

    Melvin;

Thanks, thanks, thanks! Was playing with the idea of putting some sort of time tracking in a database I was creating for a new business not yet started and thought "forget it" I have much greater priorities. Biggest reason is I'm barely a beginner on Xbasic programming. Was just looking around reading articles when I spotted your program, thanks again, this'll help me figure out how much time I'm spending on accounts!

    Roger,

Your simple thank you makes it all worth while. I've asked Selwyn a few times for a simple way to track how many times contributions are downloaded, but so far no action yet. It's understandable, but I feel that providing feedback to the contributors goes a long way towards encouraging future contributions.

Thank you so much! I need to put in employee's time cards. So this gives my a good place to start. I am new to Alpha products so I was really struggling with the lack of a time type of data.

    Hi,
Your program is quite interesting. I never figured out before how many days passed since i was born...

but i think it can have also other practical use.
I receive daily a lot of offers by email from all over the world.
In the email header i have foll information

    created:23 September 2005, 00:49:28 (Thu, 22 Sep 2005 17:49:28 -0400)

    received:23 September 2005, 00:59:27 (Fri, 23 Sep 2005 00:59:27 +0300)

from this data I want to extract info in 2 fields:

-in one field I want to have the time difference between the date when the message was created and the actual time when i am reading it (computer time), to check how old the msg is

-in another field I want to have the local time in the country of sender (compared with my computer time)to see if he is in the office or maybe he is asleep..

as you noticed I already have the information about the GMT time difference. In my country is +0300 and in the sender's country is -0400

Can you suggest how this can be done?

    Appreciate your support.

    Regards,
    Corneliu

    Corneliu,

First, please note that the code archive is meant for
contributions only. If you have questions about how
to do something, you should be posting them to the
    appropriate forums.

All the basic are already there to do what you want.

"in one field I want to have the time difference between the date when the message was created and
"the actual time when i am reading it (computer time), to check how old the msg is

Just enter the starting and ending times and the difference is shown.

"-in another field I want to have the local time in the country of sender
"(compared with my computer time)to see if he is in the office or maybe he is asleep..

This is basic math. Just substract the difference in GMT
    eg: -0400 - +0300 = 7 hrs Difference. So add seven hours
(25200 seconds) to the senders time to get your time.
    7 * 3600 secs in 1 hour = 25200 secs

If you want to look at the code for the time diff, all you
have to do is go into design mode and examine the calculated
fields and you will see how to calculate the values.
