    Default Contact Manager

    Hi,
This is a remake of the Contact Manager program included in an earlier version of Alpha. It was in black and white and wasn't grouped together very well, so I thought I'd try and make it more appealing.

    Hope you like it,

    Hmmm...
For some reason the ZIP was downloaded but does not show up on the screen. So I'm resending in this message.

Some of you would like to make changes, etc. and I forgot to 'expose' the control panel when exiting the program. I usually hide it so the program looks more professional. But to make changes or see the underlying code, it's a necessity.

It's a few steps, but after the program is started and on the desktop:
#1 - Press Alt-V to select the view menu
#2 - Press T to select the toolbar menu
#3 - Select the 'Code Editor' and press the 'Show' button
#4 - Press the 'Close' button to get rid of the Toolbar Launcher.
#5 - Press 'Quit' on the Contact Manager menu.

The control Panel will now be visible.

To assure that the control panel is always visible (for the Contact Manager program)
#1 - On the control panel (Forms tab) highlight the Contact Manager form .
#2 - Press the 'Design' button
    #3 - Press Alt-F then A for Actions
#4 - You will notice that the 'On Activate' script says: controlpanel.hide()
You can delete this and you will always see the control panel
But the best way is to display the control panel when you exit the program.

    To do this:
#1 - Highlight the OnActivate dropdown list and find 'OnExit'
#2 - Click on it and you'll see the words 'Action Script' in the left edit box.
#3- Press Alt-C then, 'Convert to XBasic' from the menu list.
#4 - Just below the words ''XBasic enter this: :controlpanel.show()
This will cause the control panel to be viewable every time you quit the program.

    Regards,

I think it would be most helpful to place or include a readme file in the zip file. This file would have the necessary notes that one needs to install. It would also contain the version of Alpha in which it was written.

I tried it with A4v2 and it would not work. In my profile I selected Alpha4v2 for subject. Never-the-less, it is always good practice to have readme files.

Thank you for your generosity of the contact program.

I noticed that on the activities tab that there's a browse and that I can sort it by dates. I have a form with sucha a browse, but when I try to sort it by date, I go into enter mode, and all of my prior records disappear until I unsort by date (the quick filter comes on for some reason). How did you design the browse so it could be sorted (I know I could look at everything in design mode, but I hope your answer would be quicker. Thanks, Robert.

Is it not a good practice to lable the version of Alpha these programs were created? For instance, I have A4, will this app work for a4v2 v6?

    Sorry Guys,
I've been too busy making money with A5 to check this section of the board!

The Contact Manager was indeed written with the latest version: A5v403 (build 230). I forgot to mention that because I 'assumed' everyone on earth uses the latest version. ;>)

I don't understand why 'anyone' would want to put up with an older version, the cost of an upgrade is minor, and the benefits are obvious. Besides some of the version one bugs were huge!

Yes, I know some of you still use A4V6, and I still have it as well. But I've converted all my clients over to Windows, and if they didn't want to convert, they were left in the dust!

    HTH,
