We are collecting information about the Alpha product and the company.
Based in the Netherlands we want to use this product European wide.
Is this a real good product and how is it comparable with MS Access and other competitive products.
Can programmers start fast and produce better results?

    Hello Eduard,

If you can do a search on this website with regard to MS Access Vs Alpha you will find some very detailed comparisons. If you have not done so post this thread on the main message board as well.
Alpha certainly offers a lot of power to programmers who have limited experience. And once you have gained some experience I would say the only limits are the ones you put on yourself.

    Hope this helps a little

    Cheers
    Tom

    Hi Eduard,

below is a link to a previous post comparing Alpha with Filemaker.

When evaluating comments on the message boards for the different software you are considering, remember that it takes time to learn any software well, even those that appear easy to use at first glance. The result is that many people only know the product they currently use and thus are not in a position to comment as objectively as those who have used multiple products, especially those who have done so professionally. I recommend, therefore, that you pay particular attention to comments by folks who have such multi-product experience. In addition, I would suggest that finding a significant number of such folks using a product is a strong indicator of a good product since, by implication, it indicates dissatisfaction with the prior product and greater satisfaction with the current one.

My general impression from these message boards is that there are a lot of folks using Alpha who have previously used Filemaker and/or Access, yet looking through the Filemaker and Access boards, there are almost none that have gone the other way. That alone speaks volumes. I, myself, developed in FileMaker for five years and would never go back. There is simply no comparison between Alpha and Filemaker. I know it can be difficult to judge products when you first start out, but believe me, while FileMaker appears easy to use at first, you'll be running into obstacles in it in no time. Alpha is vastly more flexible, powerful and faster, and the company is far more responsive.

    Regards,
    Trevor

PS If you want to search for comments, I suggest you look on the main Alpha Five list rather than this one which is for UK specific stuff.
