Default Alpha4v6 and Windows 2000 Professional

I have attempted to load A4V6 on a Windows 2000 OS without any luck. Tried from the "RUN" in Windows and also tried loading from DOS prompt. I get as far as "Enter Disk Labled ---- " and press any key. The disk number does not appear and inserting the second disk and pressing any key produces a tone and that's it. No progress. I do have Alpha4V6 loaded on another Windows 2000 OS box.
    Thanks for any assistance.

    Bill:

Your question and remarks have the key to success.

You say "...I do have Alpha4V6 loaded on another Windows 2000 OS box...." THAT's IT!

Pkzip or Winzip THAT copy and move it to the problem machine. The install disks merely copy the files to the hard drive. No 'system.dlls's' registry entries, etc.

If it works on the first one, it'll work on the second.

Let us know your successes or failures.

Forgot to mention -- you should upgrade to V7 because many are having trouble with corrupted data and indexes under 2000 and up OS. I have two clients using V7 on 2000 Pro with no trouble at all.

    Ken,
Thanks again. I followed your instructions and was able to load
Alpha4v6. Works fine as far as I can tell. I'm only dealing with
small files at home, unlike work. At work I'm managing data bases
    with about 350,000 records.

I love Alpha, have not found anything that I want to do that Alpha
can't accomplish. Thanks for the help.

DO NOT attempt to restructure a dbf in win2k. It WILL corrupt the data. You need ver 7 if you are going to do much with win2k
