Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

printing continuous post cards as mail labels

I'm trying to print on continuous post cards 4 1/4" Height
and 5 1/2" wide but as the cards print the text move farther down the card until I have to manually reset my starting position. I tried to enter a higher height in the
label parameters screen but 20 is the max and at 6lines per inch I guess I need 25.5? The text prints fine on the card except for moving down each time. any ideas?

RE: printing continuous post cards as mail labels

It sounds like your using the mail label utility to print the post cards.

Use the report utility and adjust the paper size to that of your post card.

    This should work.

RE: printing continuous post cards as mail labels

Thanks for your quick reply ron- I just tried your suggestion but unfortunately the same problem! I am entering the postcard size 4 1/4 H X 5 1/2 W on the Report Layout Utility in GOTO F7 Typeset Layout and on the Report Parameters Screen I've entered Page Length Not Standard with a length of 25. It should be 25.5 but there's no way to enter that. Could that be the problem? any suggestions?

        Paul

        Try using the report writer
set the page height to 26 lines ie: 4.25" use the nul chtr (Ctrl backspace) to force blank lines except in the address
Set the printer lines to 7 lines per inch. Provided you printer can cope with variable line spacing this should work. If not,
If you let me know what type of printer you are using and your e-mail address I will try to get it to work for you.
Remember that typeset mode creates a cell so start with the font all the same.

Hi Malcolm-I tried to change to 26 lines on the nonstandard paper set and 7 lines per inch on the typeset printer setup-
I don't even want to use the typeset option-just regular print- I don't understand your advice about CNTRL backspace
please enlighten me and forgive my stupidity! I'm printing on an Epson LQ-570e 24 pin dot matrix using continuous post cards. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

            Paul:

Have you considered creating a new printer driver by editing the existing printer driver? For page length 4 1/4 inches will be 34 lines when the printer is set for 8 lines per inch. This should work out exactly and create any creep. I've used this kind of a setup when I have printed premade 1099 MISC forms.

I may try and print something tomorrow at 4 1/4 inches between the start of any new text to see if it would work.

Just an idea but it might help a little.

              Paul,

I was just looking at the post card that Alpha Software mailed to me. The card is 6" wide by 4 1/4" high.

It looks like their printer in configured to print 7 lines per inch. That would be 30 lines per card.

See if you can define a printer configuration for your printer that is 7 lines per inch.

                Hi Paul,

                I've enclosed 2 printer configurations.

Unfortunately, I don't have one specific to an Epson printer. You can give them a try. Just change the Lines per Page to 34. You may have to change the printer port.

Let me know how you make out.

Hi-where would I create the new driver? In A4 Printer config. there's no place to change the lines per inch. The only place is in the typeset printer config in the Report Layout f7 utility but I'm not using typeset mode-does this matter? Would I have to create a new driver in Windows Settings/Printers? Thanks for your help!

                      Hi Paul,

                      First, it's not a driver, it's a printer configuration.
                      Select:

                      Other
                      Configuration
                      Printer Configuration
                      Create/edit printer configuration

Then make a new configuration using the configurations I gave you as a guide.
