Clair:
Your 'old' dos verison won't work with XP but it's upgrade, A4 Version Seven will according to the latest word from Alpha - See Home page for details for both the New A4V7 and the The Windows Version A5 4.5.

Claire,
Your Alpha Four 'application' will not convert when you move to Alpha Five.
The data in your application's DBF files are compatible. Most folks just copy the DBF files over to a new folder.
Text stored in your memo fields (DBT file) if any will be converted automatically. Just copy them along with your DBF files.
Your NDX files are not compatible; a different indexing format is used in Alpha Five.
Your experience developing range and filter expressions will be useful because the syntax in Alpha Five is very similar (in fact it's identical in many cases).

Thank you for information, but I can't figure out whether Ver. 7 is a windows program or a DOS? Will I have to redo the indexes?

It looks like all your answers except "Is Alpha A4 V7 a Dos or Windows Program. It is DOS. HOWEVER ---. It seems to be the exact program that Alpha A4 V6 is, except V7 adds the ability to use the Windows Printer Drivers. A4V7 will work on all versions of Windows. At least that is what Alpha says. I am using Alpha A4V7 just as I used A4V6. The only proglem I (and others) had was using a *.BAT file to start an application. The board has an answer for this too. Good Luck.
