Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alpha4v7 feedback

Just got my copy today and thought I'll post some feedback on this board.

    1. The bad news is, Version7 is EXACTLY the same as version6. As far as I can tell, there are no new funtions, expressions, enhancements. Even the manuals are identical.

    2. The good news is, Version7 is as promised, OPTIMIZED for windows. That means there are no granular crashes, no out of handles mssgs, or any other mssgs. It seems to be 100% compatible with version6 dbfs, indexes, forms, functions, etc..., except that everything runs now better in windows. It also allows you to print to your windows printer.

    3. If you are still using version 6 to manage your data, version 7 is a MUST HAVE upgrade. It's the only way you can continue to use alpha4 under windows without major crashes and that by itself is worth the upgrade price.

    4. Of course since version 7 is now a current product, I hope that Alpha Software will start to address other issues and offer further enhancement and bug fixes to the software for those of us who want to continue to use alpha4.

    5. Let's show to alpha software that there IS MONEY to be made by supporting this software upgrade.

    Sincerely,
    Jack.

I agree with you 100%. I have ordered a 3 network package. A4 is a great product. If we show the powers to be at alpha that we are willing to support the product, they may consider other upgrades.

If you are reading this alpha, how about being able to fax from within the program.

Is it now possible to use winfax since we can use windows printers?? Can anyone clarify??

I would say YES. I haven't actually tried it but "winfax" does show up as available windows printer under a4v7.

      Sincerely,
      Jack.

        Jack,

Many of my reports have been designed using the "Typeset Mode." Do you know if printing Typeset Reports is still available in Version 7?

          Ron;
Typeset mode is exactly the same as in V6. V7 makes no changes (nor improvements i.e. Windows printers) for Typeset.

            Guys:

I made a seperate post about this before I saw this one.

YES - V7 Quite nicely faxes thru a Windows Resident fax 'Printer' - i.e. Winfax, Bitware, HotFax Message Center, et al I'll bet. I scripted a button on the Invoice form and it works perfectly. I've tried printing to two ink jet windows printers using the Alpha default setups 'as is' and WOW - it printed perfectly - on both!

YES - It does seem quicker operating on my Win98 system.

Yes.... I think we're on to something and, even if not much else was changed it is definitely a new tool that we all need in our arsenal.

            U P G R A D E A L L! You need it!!!!
