Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alpha Four version 7

I heard some GREAT news today! I was told by someone at Alpha Software that there will be a version 7 of the DOS product, it will be XP compatible, and it will be more tightly integrated with the Windows operating systems. I wish I knew more, like what new features will be in the product, when the product will be ready for release, etc., but those questions are not being answered.

Does anybody know anything more about Alpha Four version 7?

Call 800-451-1018 and ask the question, then post their response. Hopefully it wasn't an April fool's joke.

          Maybe Yes!
I also heard (from an unnamed source who is close to Alpha) this past weekend, that indeed there is a DOS v7 being worked on. The news shocked the heck out of me! (Anybody remember perhaps 2 years ago when they asked for input on this board?) Apparently the key guy who worked on v6 (and is no longer at Alpha) has been contracted to produce a "v7". So hope continues!

            Duncan:

I've also heard from the married daughter of a cousin of a neighbor to the custodian of the building two doors down from the Alpha building [also un-named]. Apparently he's heard from the uncle of a Pizza deliveryman who saw a new guy at the Alpha building wearing a 'Version 7 [something]' logo on his T-shirt and carrying a funny looking valise. This T-shirt guy is seen coming and going at regular times from the Alpha building. He has a beard and is described as a 'Nerd' type -suppose he could be the programmer? He never changes his shirt.

            Hope springs eternal!

              Dear Ken,

Yes, there is an Alpha 4 version 7 coming out. It will work under windows 2000. I'm also told that it can also use the windows printers as well.

We have move to SQL2000 now, but I will buy this version just to support Alpha Software. I wish they did this years ago, but I'm told this is just around the corner.

Ken, will you be buying everyone pizza when it comes out?

                Ken;
Well now that your extremely close and credible source is verification of my "scoop", are we now taking bets (and who will be establishing the odds?) on which "new baby" arrives first ... A4 v7 or A5 v5?

I think this is great news, but would like someone from Alpha to confirm or deny it. If it is true, then what can we expect and when?

                    RE: Alpha Four version 7

Probably exactly why they aren't saying anything, because as soon as they announce it everyone is going to want all those answers, and obviously all the ducks are not in a row yet. So let's not put any additional pressure on them right now ... I'm quite certain they are very busy trying to hustle A5 v5 out the door, so an A4 v7 is down the priority list. I for one am just happy that it is (presumably) being actively worked on. So unless we hear a strident denial, I would suggest we be patient a little longer.
