    Default Barcode Printing in A4V6

I'm looking for a way to print barcode labels using A4V6.

Looking thru the posts on this site I see plenty of messages about using scanners to scan data into alpha.

I do have a Wasp Bar Code Reader that works great but I have to create labels using Wasp bar code software.

It would be much easier if I could just use Alpha rather than going between applications.

    Any suggestions?

    Brian:
Barcodes work really well in Alpha5 but because Alpha 4 is a DOS application it is harder to use the windows fonts in the reports.
I also use wasp in Alpha5.
When I was using Alpha4 I had to import the information into a Windows Database (filemaker Pro) to use the Fonts.

Alpha4 does have standard and enhanced printing but I could not get the labels to print correctly.

Probably not what you wanted to here.

I was just replying back to an earlier post when you sent me this message.

What can you tell me about the new version of Alpha5 that is coming out? Is there anything posted up on the web about it?

I guess I will have to give A5 another chance before throwing in the towel!

    Thanks

I am in the process of converting to A5 and using it for barcodes. In the meantime we are using Wasp barcodes with A4v6. Its a little cumbersome but works for us. We append records to a dbf of the labels we want with barcodes then open Wasp and run the label we have formatted that is linked to the dbf. It automatically prints all the records. Since Wasp supports command line arguments, you could probably run it from A4 and have it start and run the labels, then Alt-Tab back to A4, Havent tried it but it would probably work.

    Brian,

Why not make life simple and order the barcode fonts from Alpha. They have a number of font packages. I think the price is about $30. Put the fonts in your Alpha directory. Design a label using these new fonts. You can then print real barcode labels without ever leaving Alpha4.

    Good luck!

I have been trying to find this as well with no luck. Someone was selling the pack but I took too long to get it.

    Thanks.

I have a few superficial comments:

I am new to barcodes, but from what I hear the software based fonts actually take a while to get to the printer, especially if you use a dot matrix printer (like me). In other words if you are going to print 200 address labels it could take a while.

The direction I am headed in is to set up my Okidata printers, which have resident, built in (fast printing )barcode fonts, to print my labels with barcodes on them.

    Best of luck!

I was just going through some old software boxes and I think I ran across some of the old A4V6 barcode fonts diskettes. If you're still interested, let me know via bartelt@datafinancial.com or tbartelt2@wi.rr.com.
