    Default System clock settings - AM , PM

    I've spent several days trying to come up with the correct syntax to
    make the computer system clock use the AM and PM formats.
    Currently, the database displays the 24 hour clock code:

    12:42 AM = 00:42:00
    2:40 PM = 14:40:00

    Personally, I do NOT mind the 24 hour time system, but some if the
    people that I program for would rather have the standard AM and PM
    settings.

    I am using Alpha 4 version 1.1. I know that this software is OLD, but
    the organizations that I program for are still using old XT and DOS
    systems. These organizations are volunteer ... and new computer systems
    are NOT a priority.

    In the past, I've been able to make ANYTHING work .... but this time,
    the simple CLOCK functions are creating quite a roadblock.

    Any ideas out there?

    Hi Ross

    Try this expression;

    str(val(SYSTEM->TIME)-if(val(SYSTEM->TIME)>12,2,0))+sub
    str(system->time,3,3)+if(system->time>"12:00"," PM"," AM")

    This expression returns a character expression so if you are using it as calculated field make sure its formatted as character.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks much for your suggestion on the AM, PM thing. I probably never
    would have come up with your expression routine. I will try it and
    see what happens.

    Robert,
    Your suggestion works great! I never would have believed it would
    work when I first looked at it. Whenever I've combined STRING and
    VALUE functions before, all I got were ERRORS all over the place.

    I did have to make a change so the clock would display 2:00 PM instead
    of 14:00 PM. Otherwise, I used your expression exactly as you
    printed it.

    Many, Many thanks. You solved the problem that I've spent many hours
    trying to solve.

    I trust that later versions of Alpha4 already have the AM, PM issue
    embedded in the program.
