Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Mutilpy in a region on a form

I am trying to design a recipe book that can mutilpy the amount of ingredients based on the amount one wants to prepare. Say the basic recipe makes 10 servings and uses .750 cup of Whole Wheat Flower. I want to make 20 servings. I just change a number and it will tell me (Calcuated) in Decimal form the amount of each ingredinet I need to make it. I am using a region on a from with a set. I can get the FIRST item to work but the rest has 0.00. Why don't the rest mutilply?? What am I doing wrong?? What do I need to change?? I wish I could make do it with the fractions, but I am not that advanced YET. Anyone have any suggestions. Has anyone designed anything like this in a cook Book?

I anyone has designed a cook book that works will I would be willing to pay something for it. That works the way I have tried..

Thanks in Advance for any suggestions. I know someone has a good suggestion or answer.

RE: Mutilpy in a region on a form

A calculated field should work in a region. If you want the user to be able to override the default setting you could also use field enter triggers to do the calcs. The advantage of this is it recalcs each time you change a field and you can use much more complex calcs if necessary.
However for what you want probably a calc field is easiest and should work, if it doesn't, give more details.

RE: Mutilpy in a region on a form

Is it structured n such a way that the items of the region, are quantities and ingredients for the recipe in the header? Are you trying to update the screened form or would you be satisfied with a Print-to-screen/printer soluton. I can picture a field in the header showing the number of servings and then line item calcs on a scripted variable collected with a prompt. The first visualization would be a screen print of the results leaving the screened form unchanged.

I'll work on both and get back to you. Assume you're version 6.2

RE: Mutilpy in a region on a form

        Thanks Ken,

At present I am doing all this on a FORM. Yes, I have a header that has the Recipe Name, with Catagories & # of Servings it will yeild. Also a block to enter for MUTILTLIES. Thus, when changing it multlpies by each Decimal entered ingredient. That's part of the promblem, I have to use another form to re-enter Amounts in Decimal form.

Then in the region I have the Measurement of EACH ingredient, with the names of the ingredient along with how it is to be prepared. Print to screen would be OK. What I was wanting to do is change the # of servings which is easy to do and it changes all the amounts of each ingredient needed. I have a block for the orginal recipe and one for the Calculated amounts. I guess the orginal could be used and not have to enter it twice. I had a commerical program years back that would do this but was not happy with it all. It even printed a shoping list for everything needed. Also, when I print I want to print on a 3 x 5 Index card which is not working out to the best. For the ingredients takes up most of the card. If a long recipe was entered it could take a 1/2 dozen cards or more. Then some lines only print HALF the text at the bottom.

I guess a Script Variable would be OK that way nothing would be changed. I never thought of doing that way. I put an EXTRA Block to Calcuate the Changes, LEAVING the Orginal Recipe & amounts UNCHANGED, ONLY changing the # of Servings and the rest of the amounts that were calculated by that #.

        Hope this is clear
