    Cal:

I agree. In VB for example, forms begin with frmFormName, modules are mdlModuleName, classes are clsClassName.

I just assumed that A5V5 being a "true Windows" program would abide by Windows file naming conventions. You are probably right about the dash in the file name I used.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Sorry Cal, I had forgotten to enable that option when I created this board. I just turned it on and your links above are now active.

    Jim,

Someone in this long thread said that inexperience can be an advantage. I think that's true. I've been coding since the early eighties and I find the documentation terribly confusing, partly because it's anybody's guess which document will contain what you're looking for. If you're anything like me you'll find that following lines of xbasic is easiy compared to trying to second-guess the "intuitive" features of AlphaFive. I thought I was getting there with 4.5. and now I'm having to expose my ignorance all over again on the version 5 forum!

Never mind. The first couple of years are the worst, apparently.

    Martin.

    Martin:

First of all, let me say that Alpha5 is a great concept. I wouldn't have bought it if I thought it was a dud. I would like to see it made better.

I have found numerous things that just don't work the way they are supposed to, crash bugs that totally take down the program for silly reasons and in short, plenty of rough edges.

For a "Database program for non programmers", it's curious that you need programmers to figure out how to make it work! At this point I am finding myself spending well over 50% of my time finding work arounds to functions that do not function correctly for various reasons. The last "addmonths" problem is just one example. You can believe that I worked for hours without success with the script editor before I posted my last request for help message.

    Thanks for the support.
