Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Field Rules & MS2000/NT

    Hello all,

I was hoping someone out there might have the magic answer to a problem I have incountered? Client upgraded to MS2000/NT and of course I made the mistake of editing a little on their machine :( before I new what could happen.

What I have is, in the field rules, event catagory, no little -down- arror for linked scripts? Seems the link between the field rules editor and the script editor don't exist. Is there any way of repairing this without having to create dummy DB with field rules?

If someone has the secret - Please, please let me know - this database has exstensive field rules incorporated.

Thanks for any and all help :)

    RE: Field Rules & MS2000/NT

The only solution is to go back to a backup copy made prior to the computer upgrade. Editing field rules in Win 2000 will scramble everything. A5V1 will run ok in Win2000, even WinXP, but if you need to make changes keep a WinME or older machine around for development. Moving the current A5V1 database back to an older machine probably won't work. I tried it and A5V1 wouldn't open the field rules. I had to use a backup. All you need from the backup are the data dictionary files for the tables - ddm, ddx, ddd. The current data will be unaffected if that is all you restore.

      Jerry,

Thanks for the comeback :) From a previous thread I found out about developing on my ME version instead of 2000 :)

Here's a wierd one for ya Jerry - I found out why the linking arrow was not present - or at least I got it back. I keep having an error with my A_PRINT.DLL file. Seems as tho' A5v1 didn't like my default printer, so I went to my little in home network and assigned my wifes printer. Bingo, the little arrow appeared. Seems that A5 needs a printer file to complete configuration? I haven't had this problem in the past, but it did occur here? A5V1, when installed has always used the windows default? Maybe you can see something here I can't :).

      Thanks Again Jerry -

      Mac

      P.S.
Still a problem tho' - I have to assign her printer everytime I load up to do some editing :(.

        Please understand,

ALpha 5 vewr 1 is a wonderful system, but it was never written to deal with win XP or 2ooo. I keep a win'95 machine around because I need to make changes to field rules or scripts. I have a huge production system that till needs tweaking, so I just make accommodatons for the trusty, old software. It has been very good to us, so I think I can deal with a little inconvenience.
