Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Wrong Location for my Question?

    I posted a problem in the A5V4 section "EVENT SCRIPTING ERROR". The code from here to there is a little different.

    Msg ID: 70619
    Subject: Event Scripting Error
    Author: chrisallard
    Date: 10-09-2003 1:41 PM
    File:

    I am trying to print a report from a SET (PO.SET) it has two databases (PO_HEAD and PO_ITEM). My filter requires information from both .dbf's. The scripting below will not work for me in this instance. Everytime I try to run this is comes back with a scripting error as follows: Error:Operand is of incorrect type at line 6.

    I have tried different things and cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. This code works in a different database but not here. Any Ideas?

    if ( db_mode_get(db_current())==0)

    range.flags = RANGE_INDEX .or. RANGE_FILTER
    range.index_handle = index_record_get(db_current(),"PO_NUM")
    range.filter = "DATE>=\"06/01/2003\".AND.DATEIT_VEND=\"INVENSYS ORDER ENTRY\".AND.(LOC_NUM=\"103\".OR.LOC_NUM=\"1983\")"
    range_add(db_current(), " ", " ")

    card_popup("print_preview", "USE=~INVENSYS ORDER ENTRY~ TYPE=~REP0~")

    range_drop(db_current())

    else
    ui_msg_box("Warning","Unable to print INVENSYS ORDER ENTRY while in change or enter mode.",0)
    end if

    RE: Wrong Location for my Question?

    Some questions,

    Is your date field actually a date or a character field? Is the loc_num a number or character?

    The way you have it set up, date is comparing to a character and the loc_num is comparing to a character.

    You might want to filter between(date,{06/01/2003},{07/01/2003}) and remove the \" from around the numbers in the loc_num comparison.

    Many times, you can set the report up using the control panel, then, using the script recorder, take the code from what was set up.

      Yes it is an actual date. Do you think the filter is where the problem is at? It keeps erroring out at line six.

      range_add(db_current(), " ", " ")

      The message comes up as follows: Error:Operand is of incorrect type at line 6

      I am requesting info from both the parent database and the child. Could that be what is wrong?

        RE: Wrong Location for my Question?

        It errors out on the range add because that is what is being executed. The error is in the filter as you are comparing a date type field to a character expression. I suspect you are also comparing a numeric field to a character expression.

        try this:

        range.flags = RANGE_INDEX .or. RANGE_FILTER
        range.index_handle = index_record_get(db_current(),"PO_NUM")
        range.filter = "between(DATE,{06/01/2003},{07/01/2003}).AND.PO_ITEM->IT_VEND=\"INVENSYS ORDER ENTRY\".AND.(LOC_NUM=103.OR.LOC_NUM=1983)"
        range_add(db_current(), " ", " ")

        The change allows you to compare dates to dates, and numwerics to numerics.

          I had to adjust your filter expression as the 103 and 1983 where characters. The button now displays the filter onpush and runs the report.

          Thanks so much!!
