Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    .MUF??????

After all of the snickering stops, does anyone know what this file type is? We have one database in ver 1.02 that, despite erasing and rebuilding, gets this .muf file type assigned. It was created 2 years ago, and has no size. What is it, and how do I unattach(?) it from my database?

    Thomas,

I can't really say for sure, but I'm guessing that it is a user file that is created by one of the scripts in the application and/or database.

I don't really think so, but I will check my programmer's scripting.

        Thomas,

        I have the answer.

.MUF is not used by A5V1.x. I suspect it is used by V3 and above.

I found out because I just installed A5v4.5. If you delete it in that version and you try to open the .ADB, you get the nasty message.

          RE: .MUF??????

          Thomas:

The file is a Multi User File that, as Melvin pointed out, is automatically created by Alpha Five versions 3 and above. If you delete it, version 3 or above will re-create it. It was also used in Alpha 4.

It's purpose is to limit the number of concurrent users to the number of licenses purchased from Alpha Software.

Is it possible that your application files are periodically being opened by Version 3 or above??? Perhaps another application is sharing files??? Did you, or are you running Alpha 4???

          Craig

ps No snickering, here. We've ALL asked that question at one time or another!

Thanks, guys, after installing ver 4.5, and looking at the ver 4 forum, I realized what the file was. What I found interresting was tat nobody who is using ver 4 noticed my post earlier.

              RE: .MUF??????

That's probably because many of us using v4 don't have time to scan all the message boards and we are generally more concerned with what we are using. When I have time, I like to see if I can help out here. Unfortunately, it is sometimes weeks between visits.
