Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    erasing reports

Okay gang, I'be run into another roadblock. How does one erase of delete a report. I managed to create five different versions of a report and I want to get rid of all of them except the last. (Each report does have a different name). I'll be darn if I can find anything in the documentation or help files on this. I know how to erase database files even when I don't mean to. .
By the way, I really apprecaite the help that you all have given this here Alpha Five neophyte. My project is really moving along quite well and quickly. If I had tried to do this project in Paradox, which I have used before, I would only have about 50% of what I have currently acheieved.

    RE: erasing reports

Gerry - on the same screen from which you made and/or run the reports (FILE,REPORTS), select the report you want to delete. On the right side of this screen is a button to delete the report. Click it, answer YES to are you sure ?

    The report will be deleted.

By the way, after you have erase several reports or forms,
it's a good idea to run the maintenance routines.

      RE: erasing reports

      Lowell,

I run my reports from the control panel. When I click on "reports" the program comes up with a box that has buttons along the right side for the following: "preview, new, design, print, and cancel", but none for erasing. I have searched high and low through drop down menus and multiple layers of dialog boxes lookng for an erase button for reports. Am I missing sonething?

      Thanks

        RE: erasing reports

        Gerry,

please make sure you have downloaded the patch
        and upgraded to version 1.0.2

I'm sure you'll find the delete button after that.

            RE: erasing reports

I ran into this problem also but through a random stroke of keys found that if I highlighted the report with a single click then pressed my DELETE key, it will delete the report and prompt you to ask "Are you sure you want to delete report titled " "?

I have not used the patch but think it sound like a great idea.

                RE: erasing reports

Jan- you really should apply the v1.02 patch -there are some other weird things in v1.00 that are fixed by the patch.
