Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Std.Memo field will not save in A5V3

This inquiry for help regards a sudden corruption problem with the standard memo field in all databases/tables, including the software application samples and templates, as well as all my own. The memo field will not save when making a new entry, and if adding to information already in an established memo, all the information in the field is lost when being saved. Other fields retain input or change when saved. The following is background on the version of A5, years using Alpha, as well as the makeup of my databases. Also the extent I have looked into solving this problem myself.

I started out using A4V1 in 1991. Up graded through V6. In 1997 I switched to A5V3, the current one in use now. I use it in my home. My current databases are not very complicated. Most have been in use since 1991. I am not on a network, no Sets at present and the only user. A5V3 has been used with MSWin.95 up to recently, when I purchased a high-end notebook with MSWinXP (home). A5V3 worked for a few days without a problem on the new computer and XP. I have tried the Compatibility Wizard and checked to use Win.95. Still had a problem. I checked each choice separately, then again all 3 at once, and this did not correct problem with corrupted memo field.

Additional tries at fixing the problem follows:
    1. Have un-installed entire software and personal database/tables. Re-installed application and then backups of my databases before problem started. This did not help.
    2. Indexes have been rebuilt, I do not index by any memo fields---never have and in Explore, any $----.Mpx files were removed.
    3. I have constructed a simple new database/table, by scratch, no templates or previous databases, and this did not correct problem. I did notice in the new field structure when making a database table, that in the past when a memo and date field was chosen, the correct 10 or 8 pops up as width. Now the width comes up the same as the field chosen above it, even though those fields require 10, 8 respectively.
    4. I do not find memos being saved in other records, they simply do not save. Default Forms and browsers are affected.
    5. I do use an Intelli-Mouse, but have used it for several years with Win.95 without a problem.
    6. I have increased file handles to 175.
    7. I tried a new memo field in the same table and this memo field also was corrupt.
    8. I noticed problems with memos from the Message Board, specifically 029-Memos, then messages 081, 0109, 1156, 1585, 1857, 2102, 2224. I did not see any good solutions.

I am at a loss to know what to do next. Any help would be appreciated.
